How do you unbind an item if you can?

You cannot not unbind an item. If there is a timer with the item the item will become unbound at that time. However once you equip or add it to an outfit the item will become permanently bound to that toon. There is also legacy bound items that you can trade within your own legacy. So be careful before choosing to use an item an a toon.

If you have legacy armour shells or weapons you can transfer armour plates, mods and enhancements - and hilts and barrels and augments in the slots if you have them on one character and you want them to go to another - but only in your legacy, since you can't mail/send/transfer them to other players.

 

A search should turn up a few guides, her on the forums or youtube.

 

Note that some armour plates will only fit in the type of shell they came from, so head only fits in head pieces, chest into chest pieces etc.

 

There were some whole purple legacy armour sets issued with the shadow of revan expansion - IIRC they're for level 60-ish and are okay if they are an improvement on your current gear - but TBH there's a lot more out there that can be bought for a few 1000s of credits.

 

There are items that are bought in the Cartel market, they bind to you for a couple of days...( red countdown timer) but so long as you don't equip them ( or use them) then they can be transferred and bought and sold when the timer runs out.
