What part of New York? You do know that New York is a state and just a city.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. People that stupidly refer to NYC as just NY. NY is far more than just NYC. NYC makes up a small part of NY.

I knew that he meant the city. It is a huge pet peeve of mine when people refer to NYC as NY. NY is more that one small corner of the state.

When they make the announcements its the city they are visiting. Not the state.

Except "New York" is the name of the city - see Stitch's address:

247 W 37th St

New York, NY 10018

"New York City" is a fairly ubiquitous colloquialism, but it's "the City of New York". You can contrast that with Kansas City, for example, which is "the City of Kansas City".

Please go look it up. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The address is written New York, New York which is a refer to the city. One New York reference the state. Two New York refers to the city. Only ignorant people refer to the city as New York. You are trying to ague something you clearly have no one about with someone who was born and raised in New York. I know the history of this state better than you do.

Riiiight.

Born and raised in Western NY. Have at various times lived there, NY's North Country, Albany area, and Poughkeepsie area for... totalled up, over 30 years, plus lived in Manhattan for several years.

But regardless of our respective New York cred, the official name of the city is "New York" so saying "the Cantina tour is coming to New York" is precisely the same format as saying "the Cantina tour is coming to San Diego", in neither case did they list the State, and not listing the State doesn't somehow change the meaning in either instance.

It can be confusing to not specify the city vs the State, but it's not incorrect.

Sure..

I'm done arguing with you because you have proven yourself a lair. Only time NYC is referred to as just NY is by stupid people that don't live here.

Since you want to use Stitch as a reference point. Just look at http://stitchnyc.com/ website. Refers to it being in NYC. The only time it doesn't express its location as NYC is in the address where it is double New York.

No one is denying that it IS New York City. Dropping the city portion is a form of shorthand. It's really not something worth getting annoyed at. New York City is a city in the state of New York. Saying the cantina is in New York is correct.

It's almost like getting annoyed at your neighbors New Yawk accent.

This is incorrect, sorry. It is perfectly acceptable (and common) to refer to the city as simply New York, especially when doing so for a global audience. If you say "New York" to someone in Paris or London, they certainly are not thinking about Syracuse or Rochester. Look at any major global firm's letterhead. It will say something like "London/Sydney/Paris/New York"

But most importantly, New York City is not even the city's name. It's "City of New York" and both New York and New York City are equally interchangeable and acceptable ways to reference it. I'm not sure why this tangent even happened but it shouldn't have.

Lived in NYC my entire life (22 years) and referred to it as New York. All my friends and family refer to the city as New York as well. Next you'll tell me that real New Yorkers never say Brooklyn, they say Kings County.

Here's a question... do most people cosplay to these things? Is it a few costumes, or mostly costumes?

Do you dress as your character or a known character? I imagine there's a Revan or 10 walking around.

I'm not sure if people do, but if we ever had one near me I'd dress up. I love any excuse to dress up in out of the ordinary attire.

There were definitely a modest number around at the NYC Cantinas I went to in 2013 & 2014. People come straight from Comic Con so costumes are not uncommon.

Most people weren't in costume, but there were enough who did have them that they're not out of place at all.

  • 2 weeks later...
Not seen an official announcement from the Devs, but Facebook says the bar you have listed is Permanently Closed. Could someone confirm this is indeed the case?

Well, they have a wing eating contest scheduled for next Wednesday, so I wouldn't worry. What concerns me is where it says "Invite Only" for Friday's event (listed as "Star Wars Video Game Event")
