The Little QoL Updates for Companions

Hey all. After scouring the forums for a bit, and playing the game through and through, I've seen some chatter about the slight issues that have pestered certain companions for a long time. Certainly not game-breaking by any extent of the term, but they are annoying for some players like myself.

After seeing the Devs respond to these types of requests before (thinking to when they made Lana, Theron, etc customizable, among other occasional changes), I find it possible that they'll make some of these changes in the future as well. Thanks for taking a look, and feel free to say something in the comments if I missed something.

Companions that can't be Customized

This one isn't so much of a bug as it is a wishlist for the Devs to implement. After this option was given to Lana, Koth, and others, I figure it's possible that it will get to the remaining companions eventually. I hope so at least

Companions that don't respond when you right-click on them

All the story companions have a collection of ambient dialogues that they say when you right-click them, but some companions are bugged. If your character isn't their class from the base game (such as Elara Dorne with a Sith Inquisitor), then they won't respond. Instead, the screen will flash with a "You are ineligible for this conversation" message. This may seem like a little thing, but they did correct it for Aric Jorgan in 5.2, several patches after he had been introduced in 4.2. So there's a precedent.

  • Elara Dorne

Companions that don't show up on Odessen

These companions must feel lonely, because they simply won't show up on Odessen even after they've been recruited into our Alliance via the story. It would be nice to see our entire cast of companions throughout the base. Many of them do take work in recruiting after all, so it's a good payoff.

Companions that show up on Odessen, but in their default gear instead of player-selected outfits

This bug applies mostly to the recently returned class-specific companions. Although they are included on Odessen, they inevitably wear the gear they were recruited in, instead of outfits personalized by the players. Andronikos is majestic and has somehow escaped this fate.

Companions that use voice lines from other Companions

This bug isn't widespread, but it can be a bit jarring. In this case, when the companion is set to the healer role, their in-combat dialogue is actually taken from a different companion's collection of voice lines. That, or said companions have just been doing their best impersonations of each other.

  • Felix Iresso, who uses voice lines from Zenith

The companion window...

This one doesn't so much pertain to particular companions, but their presentation as a whole. The companion window used to look decent and was manageable, but that has changed with many more categories getting added to account for the different types of companion returns. Initially, our companions were divided between the "Main Characters" and "Other Followers" tabs, but now, in addition to those, we have the "Companions" tab (Elara, Quinn, and/or Temple), the "Companions: Insert Class Here" tab (Companions from recent reunion missions or the Odessen terminal), and the "Recruited Companions" tab (Akaavi and Mako). All in all, there's definitely room for simplification here, and that's not even touching on some other requests, like sorting companions via "Last One Selected" or "Highest Influence". That said, I would hope the Devs have taken a look and are considering adjustments.

I agree with all those.

I would like to add the Star Fortress companions to the list of "Companions that can't be Customized". Veeroa Denz, Hemdil Tre & Rokuss have standard sized bodies, so there shouldn't be any issues with them.

Ah, very good catch. I'll make sure to add them to the original post. :D

Oh, and one more --

I'd love it if Felix Iresso (Jedi Consular companion) talked as himself when healing, instead of using Zenith's dialog.

Ooooh this shall be added! BioWare! Make Companions great again!

In all seriousness though, I was aware of this bug before. It used to be the same way with Jedi Knight companions, where Rusk's voice lines were used for Scourge's healing dialogue. They did eventually fix it for those two, but I was unaware the same issue has been plaguing Iresso and Zenith. Just one more little QoL update for our companions.

Oooh! If we are going to add bug fixes, default Vector and Scourge STILL don't have a proper skin meshs and show up wearing unitards & bras under any skin baring clothes. It's been what, 5 years now? Longer?

A couple of post KotFE companions have clothes baked onto their models, so some gear shows through depending on what you equip on them. I know this happens with Master Ranos and post FE Lokin, but I can't remember if any other have the issue.

Oh wow I've known about this bug too, but I know it's been fixed for some companions (like Xalek) in the past, so I just assumed BioWare got around to all of them eventually. If not, huh.

Can we add back the ability to summon a companion from the crew skill window that we had pre-4.0. There wasn't any reason to remove this imho. It nicely ranked companions by influence. I find the current companions and contact menu to be bloated, annoying and needlessly time consuming to navigate with no method of sorting and superfluous categories.

I do NOT need my available companions under followers to be spread across 6 possible sub-categories ;

1) main characters, 2) other followers, 3) companions {that's right just companions} 4) another companions { denoting class type sith inq, trooper etc}, 5) creatures, 6) droids.

ONE sortable list will suffice of summonable companions listed by influence or alphabetically.

Mind you these 6 follower categories are also combined with categories; alerts (alliance), and contacts.

The contacts menu is further subdivided into 4 more categories

1.) alliance specialist (necessary) ,

2.) alliance recruits (sort of necessary)

3.) a completely useless category again called "main characters" not to be confused with the other main companion category under "followers", and

4.) unavailable companions which I might add incorrectly duplicates and further clutters certain available companions listed previously in other places.

Devs, when you say you play the game and people don't believe you actually play it...these sort of things are the reason why.

Personally I do like the idea of sorting companions into various categories, though the current companion window does need a lot of simplification at this point.

However, I do think they should be able to add a summoning feature to the existing crew skill window, while they make modifications to the companion window. The crew skill window already has companions in order of greatest affection, so simply re-introducing the summoning feature that it had pre-4.0 should be an easy fix. Though that shouldn't omit them from fixing up the cluttered companion window that we currently have.
