Chocobar
http://www.vg247.com/2012/01/17/analyst-ea-has-invested-close-to-500-million-in-swtor/ Analyst: EA has invested close to $500 million in SWTOR Cowen & Co analyst Doug Creutz has estimated that EA has invested close to half a billion dollars in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Speaking with MarketWatch, Creutz said he believes EA has “minimized its risks as much as it can” on the MMO, “but it’s still a risky bet” and how well the investment pays off will rely on “how Star Wars performs.” Last year, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter estimated that in the end, EA would have invested $80 million in the game. SWTOR was released on December 20 and shortly thereafter, EA announced that 1 million users had signed up, garnering over 60 million hours of in-game play time. Thanks, Spong. Interesting. Elysion
Im sure some emperor sometime bought enough slaves and exotic animals to kill in entertaining ways while feasting to pass the dollar amount.
supruzr
The problem is none of the lists of "most expensive" things I've ever seen adjust for inflation very well. For example, the movie Cleopatra? $44 million in 1963 would be $300 million today. That factoid brought to you by Wikipedia, the minus symbol, and the letters J and S. Clova
Would this happen to include buying out Bioware, which implies buying rights to SWTOR, which is an investment?
RyneM
It also says that includes how much it cost EA to acquire BioWare...so that's how much was invested in TOR, plus the costs of buying BioWare's properties and IPs, etc.
imtrick
'cuz, yeah, buying Bioware didn't include other stuff. That number's so bogus it's ridiculous. Notice it estimates the game itself only cost them $80 million, way under the number quoted by most trolls, and definitely a lot less than most summer movies. Senadin
I wish you moronic people would stop spewing this crap without reading it! The game has cost an estimated 80-130 Millions. EA buying pandemic/Bioware was close to 750 millions actually. You guys need to learn how to research financial news better.... Weak....
