Location-Based Companion Dialog Cannot Be Heard

This happens regardless of server or character class.

The companions lag farther behind us than they used to.

Sometimes companions trip location-based dialog -- audio comments from our companions when we enter a particular location or cross a threshold.

The source of the audio is the companion, thus you cannot hear the comments, as they are too far away.

Interesting note -- when NPCs on the map trigger audio conversations, even when you move out of range, you can hear the entire exchange as if you were standing right there.

If you can't get the companions to follow closer to us, at least make sure the triggered dialog can be heard as if they were standing right next to us, regardless of distance. Otherwise, some of the class story clues are lost and much of the companion charm is missing.

It would be extra nice if we could hear these comments even if we're mounted, as long as the companion is "summoned" and will appear when we dismount. It's a shame to have to run long distances after we unlock Piloting just to hear the dialog.

Agreed. I like running up to the King's Cannon in the Gormak lands on Voss to see what they have to say about it(1), and it's annoying to have to watch the chat window for the remark.

(1) Topping the list so far for absurdity is Akaavi Spar's comment for a Smuggler:

She says that if you mounted that on the hull of your ships, no pirate would ever bother you again.

She's not wrong, not least because it's actually significantly bigger than your ship, so you might have problems getting off the ground and into space...
