Using maximum-tier gear and high-end crafting mats as carrots to grind ranked, certain bosses and raids is the result of EA's end-game monetization subscribe-to-grind scheme.

Of course you can always purchase masterwork mainhand and offhands from the trade network for around near the 200m credits mark. Many are already going that route by flipping cartel store gear for credits or purchasing credits outright from the resurgent credit spammers.

I posted previously about reforming the current masterwork, monumental reward system here.

Yes I understand that crafting materials are now easier to obtain and masterwork crystals are dropped in random loot crates slightly more often. However a new expansion is only two months away which will make present gear and materials worthless.

When Charged Matter Transubstantiator were initially released and only obtainable via three ways: certain Master Mode raids, ultra rare drops and loot crates, crafters immediately went to the third option: farming the ranked 20-match wins weekly.

The result created a backlash by regular ranked participants who complained that crafters were dragging down their rank just to complete the weekly to obtain crafting materials. Many merry trolls joined in who joined ranked matches only to sit off to the side.

So you get what we have here today: A 50 ranked matches weekly to get ONE monumental crystal. At the end of the day the debate is meaningless as given the current year there is still mass wintrading alongside the usage of external hacks.
