Just crazy enough to work?

If you like to roll the dice on procs...your Ion Pulse/HIB/Stockstrike rotation could be nasty. You could run through a cycle like this...

* Ion Pulse (100% plasma proc, 30% chance to finish cooldown on HIB and make it free)
* High Impact Bolt (regens 1 ammo and refreshes dot)
* Stockstrike (30% chance to be free, 45% chance to finish cooldown on HIB and make it free)
* High Impact Bolt (25% chance autocrit, + regen 1 ammo and refresh dot)

and finish with 12 ammo!

or nothing could proc and you could be a sad duck

Worth trying - although I think for PvP, I'd probably try to spare a few points for degauss and hold the line since it relies on getting into melee.

What would your rotation be with that build?

BTW, that is a very similar build to what I am using... In looking at it more closely I like what tweeks you have.

Will you be using plasma cell the entire time?

yes, plasma cell all the time - i purposely avoided all the high-energy-cell talents in tactics.

skill priority is basically High Impact Bolt > Stockstrike > Ion Pulse.

Ion Pulse is a nice filler because it has 100% chance to proc Plasma Cell and a 100% chance to snare. it also has a 30% chance to make your next stockstrike free, and a 30% chance to finish the cooldown on HIB and make the next one free. that's a lot of utility.

I love it. You've sold me so I'm now planning on using this for my build.

I'm also gonna try this one out. Seems intriguing somehow...

I was looking at that as well, and in general, I love to possibilities Vanguards have in speccing for PvP. Here is how I tweaked the build to give ti a little more utility and ease of staying in melee range.

Basically this build gives up a little damage via proc percentages, but makes you a nightmare against casters/healers (Riot Strike is now on a 6 second cooldown, and locks out spells for 4 seconds), and gives you improved mobility via Degauss and Hold the Line.

Thank you for this,

I've been toying with an Assault build for the last while, but never quite felt right about it. Your Tactical Assault Specialist build is perfect inspiration, with only a few tweaks for my personal preference:

Cool, I think there's a lot of room for personalization in this build. Squeezing a point for Hold the Line seems interesting. Is Degauss really all that great, though? Using a 2-minute defensive cooldown to break roots/snares doesn't seem that useful to me. Unless it also breaks stun/mez/knockdown?

One thing that bothers me is spending 4 points on Gut/Improved Gut just to get to Combat Tactics (Stockstrike/Gut have 25% chance to make next HIB crit). Since Ion Pulse autoprocs Plasma Cell and a snare, and has 10m range, we're always going to prefer it to Gut (plus it allows HIB to regen 1 ammo and refresh the dot).

If we were willing to lose Combat Tactics, we add some nice bonuses like Frontline Defense (-2 sec riot strike CD), and Intimidation (+6% elemental damage), 1/3 Steely Resolve (+3% aim).

Exactly, that's why I love the Vanguard trees. So much room to experiment and tailor specs exactly to your preferences.

Regarding Gut: I would prioritize it over Ion Pulse if the DoT is about to wear off because....
A) It refreshes a 15 second DoT that allows HIB to be used.
B) Costs the same amount of ammo but does more damage
