UPDATED 12/28/2016 208 RELICS > 230/234

All right boys and girls I been doing some PvP bolster testing I thought I post the information I got so far if anyone is interested. This is particularly important for healers and DPS since the gear is more in relation for you (sorry tanks!).

Table:

1. T1 BiS Augments

2. T1 BiS Enhancements

3. T1 BiS Mods

4. T1 BiS Barrels/Hilt

5. T1 BiS Ears/Implants

6. T1 BiS Relics

7. T2-T3 Current Testing

------------------------------------

LOOK HERE! TL;DR

1) Bolster scales your base stats differently if your a DPS or Healer or Tank

2) BiS Augment for all tiers is 228 purples. Healers should use strictly crit/alacrity augments. If you have a good mix of crit/alacrity that you want as a DPS, use Mastery over Power.

3) 230 Enhancements purples/blues are the same. Use full 208s till you have a full set of 230 blue/purple. The last 230 enhancement makes up for the decline in stats. 228 low end > 208 enhancement.

4) Advanced Lethal Mod 46 (purple 230) > Advanced Lethal Mod 40X (purple 208) = 228 low end Mod > Lethal Mod 50A (blue 230)

5) BIS Barrels/Hilt for t1: Blue/purple 230 (same stats) Every higher armor rating for barrel/hilt is always going to be better because it a static increase to your tech power/force power.

6) BiS T1 Ear Piece/ Implants: 230 Purples > 208 Purples > 230 blues > 228 crafted Purples

7) BiS T1 Relics: 208 ~ 230 (or slightly worse) > 234 > 228 Purple Relics

8) 240 > 208 Mods. 240s do bolster UP (HPS/DPS increase)

9) 240 > 230 Enhancements. (Hps/dps increase)

-------------------------------------

DPS vs. Healing Bolster:

When switching from healing to a DPS spec you lose Crit/Alacrity but gain Power/Accuracy with Bolster.

-------------------------------------

1. BIS AUGMENTS t1-t3: Advanced (Crit/Alacrity) Augment 45 (Purple 228)

The augment scaling with bolster makes sense. The purple 228s are better then the blue 228s.

Blue 228 to Purple 288 augments:

Mastery: 7641

End: 8932 (+8)

Power: 3235

Crit: 2082

Alacrity: 1851 (+10)

Bonus Damage: 3257.6

Bonus Healing: 2345.0

BiS Augments for DPS? Mastery?:

I think the most interesting question now is Power or Mastery for DPS? According to Bant's calculations once you hit which looks like the soft cap of crit 1900 rating, he goes straight into Mastery over Power. One of my friends asked him what his thoughts were if the stat pool was bigger, what should DPS put stats into, and it was Mastery. Is this evidence that Mastery is better then Power in 5.0? Could be. [/Quote]

-------------------------------------

2. BIS Enhancements for t1: Advanced (Quick Savant/Adept) Augement 40X (purple 208s) TILL FULL SET OF 230 BLUES. For info look down below.

This is where the bolster gets weird. I tested the old 208s, blue 230s and the new purple 230s (aka the new set bonus gear). The blue and purple 230 enhancements have the same stats and the same bolster. When testing the old 208 vs. the purple 230s enhancements I concluded that the old 208 are overall better. When looking at how the bolster is working, it is trying to equalize your stats. So you will notice for example, when you put when you replace a crit enhancement with another higher tier crit enhancement you will lose alacrity, even though there was no alacrity in the pieces you replaced.

When replacing the new 230 purple/blue crit enhancement with the old 208 crit enhancement:

Mastery: 7678 (+37)

End: 8953 (+13)

Power: 3218 (-17)

Crit: 2050 (-32)

Alacrity: 1871 (+10)

New conclusion: Use your 208 enhancements till you get a full set of 230s. For some reason with bolster you come out the positive end when you are a full set of 230 enhancements. You basically make up for the loss of damage/healing with your LAST 230 piece in your gear. All this does in the end is convert your mastery/end from your 208 to power/crit/alacrity which for a dps/healer would be better for pumping out the best numbers.

Conclusion: 208 > 230 blues because you lose everything for just a little bit of END. It's a DPS decrease.

From what I noticed I only get blue high mastery 230s from the loot crates (Lethal Mod 50A). These blue mods are worse then the set bonus new purple 230s AND the old 208s (Advanced Lethal Mod 40X). The high mastery 230 blue mods from crates are bad :(.

Note: I am not sure if it is possible to get high power blue 230s from loot crates so I cannot check the bolster on them. I am assuming they might have the same stats as the purple 230 Lethal Mod 46 but I cannot confirm.

UPDATED 12/28/2016:

6. BiS Relics: 208 ~ 230 (or slightly worse) > 234 > 228 Purple Relics

I confirmed my suspicions with Bant last night it does look like 208 relics are better than the 234 relics. Again this is because of the weird bolster addition of 100 mastery when you wear 208 relics. No additional stats or greater proc can make up for this enormous loss in mastery from switching from a 208 to 230/234. So our previous discussion with HPS/DPS increase with higher armor value relics was incorrect, if anything 234 are even lose then 230 since you lose more mastery per stat gain from 208 relics. This also hints that 230s as being slightly worse than 208 but they are stilll more comparable.

I would strongly advice that everyone use their 208 relics. DO NOT THROW OUT YOUR 230/234 RELICS. I am sending a ticket because I strongly believe this isn't intended.

What is important here to note with the new bolster is that get the right ratio of Crit/Alacrity you one is your first priority. Everything else seems to scale pretty evenly and shouldn't be a priority. Please note that all this is for T1 gear only and how it currently scales. We don't know if later on we hit a bolster cap and/or if the gear we get starts to downscale.

Hopes this helps guys.

This is great information and I was attempting to do the same thing but I just dont get alot of time to play and want to make the most of it grinding gear (why? I dunno).

Will have to do additional testing with lower level augments considering whats happened to bolstering with WoW just to make sure there's no magic sweet spot.

I'm doing more testing with bolster 208 enhancements vs. blue/purple 230s and finding is slightly more complicated than I first thought.

The stats are actually slightly playing off each other when you add and remove different pieces of gear. I just found that you get the full Power benefit from 230s ONLY when you have the full set of 230s enhancements in your gear. When you have full 230 enhancements you fully make up for the decline in bonus healing/damage you received from pulling out all your 208 enhancements. When you have full 230 the last piece gives you +50 power which spikes your net gain to be worth it over full 208 from a bonus healing/damage perspective.

Conclusion: Bolster is weird. 208s aren't bad but they lose their bonus healing/bonus damage effectiveness when you are wearing a full set of 230 enhancements. From stat gain perspective 208 gain you more net worth till you have full 230 blue enhancements on.

How often do 230's blue or purple drop, and can you get them just doing warzone's? I am kind of playing another game right now, but tempted to try 5.0 if its not going to take a lot of time.

You get good gcxp from reg wzs but they are a bit long, ranked is really your best bet for gearing. Id guess ive gotten a blue or purple enh mod or armoring ~every two boxes, and for a while i was getting a box per game.

Just enhancements? so you can still have 208 mods and armorings? I'm guessing since augments are outside of bolster you can upgrade those as well?

You are able to craft all Gear until 230/234 self. Or you buy it in the Market Place.

First off the green mods and armorings are worse then your 208 regardless. The thing about the mods is as a dps and heals you only receive high mastery blue mods in the crates. This mod is ****. You will noticed even though when you get a purple 230 gear piece that the mod in it is different, it's a high master/power and low end mod. Blue 230 =/= purple 230, so 230 purple mods ARE better for dps because they are low end mods. Technically even the 208 are better then the 230 blues because they are low end and scale like that with bolster.

I personally felt that testing the armorings was slightly pointless. They scale up master/end evenly. So techicnally 230 blues are better then 208 purples BUT this is kinda irreverent because you still need to keep your 208 set bonus. You shouldn't be removing your armorings till you get purple 230 with the set bonus in them.

Augments are easy. Upgrading them from our old purple to blue 224 to purple 230. You will be gaining a slight increase. I think bolster DOES effect them but it doesn't decrease your stats. The new purple augment is going to be bis for all gear tiers.

Hope that makes sense.

I love how they removed expertise to "simply" gearing, yet it seems like more of a headache to deal with there stupid bolster system to figure out what is actually BIS, lol. I missed just slapping on 208 pvp gear and knowing you were good to go!

Either way thanks for taking the time to test all this Hottie.

I agree. It is super confusing. There is a lot of stat tuning within every piece you put in which is frustrating. I am hoping this is only because we are dealing with the lowest of tier rating. I will continue to do testing as I level up and get gear. I just hope the stats become more static as you put in higher gear tier.

Is bolster for 65-69 highbies borked?

I found myself critting for 46k *consistently* with demo round in that bracket - which I immediately put down to just damage doubling as health pools had effectively doubled. But in 70s, Demo maxes out around 30-32k.

Not that I'm complaining, but if abilities or bolster are causing significantly more damage in a lower tier, it's going to be problematic.

Everything is getting the benefits of the new bolster. So everything in warzone now are slightly scaled up.

Yeah that across the board for all classes in 65 to 69. I was critting at almost 30k in combat and around 23k in the 70 bracket. Even heals are broken I was getting 25k proc'ed heals on lethality op.

Right, if it's not bolster, then it's just getting WAY more 'scaled up' in the 65-69 tier than it should be. Those crits are hilarious.

Hottie do you happen to know what the new soft cap for crit and alacrity are? Just wondering because in WZs I'm now having above 10% and I just don't want to be wasting stats on too much alacrity.

A friend of mine is doing the DR graphs of each stat today I believe. I am not use about Alacrity off the top of my head. Right now we can assume crit DR starts around 1900 rating looking at PvE parses/gearing.

I am going to test how mods behave today from 208 to blue (replacing one at a time). I think they might be the same as 230s enhancements where they might boost you a lot at the last piece which is worth testing. If this is the case It might be worth, like enhancements to use a full set of blue mods over 208s.

I'll post the findings today.

just curious when you mean 230 enhancements that you are talking about 46 same with mods

We know for sure the 46 purple mods are BiS for t1 because they are low end mods. I want to test the blue 230s vs. the purple 208 mods from our old PvP gear. I want to confirm they aren't going to behave like the Enhancement test where they were bolstering better with a full set in.

It's confusing because the blue/purple 230s are the same stats on them, virtually the same enhancement but different color. While the mods you get from the crates are different.

All right boys and girls I been doing some PvP bolster testing I thought I post the information I got so far if anyone is interested. This is particularly important for healers and DPS since the gear is more in relation for you (sorry tanks!).

[snip]

Hopes this helps guys.

Maker bless you. Seriously. This is awesome. Words don't suffice.

Lackey's guide is great for PvE but I don't believe that accuracy is as needed in PvP as it is in PvE so having the soft cap for crit and alacrity will help PvPers gear easier. Hottie lemme know when you find out the soft cap for those two stats please. And thanks for the good work.
