For most classes this means that from around 15 and to early twenties you want to rush through class-stories to get your 2nd and 3rd companion. The ship-robot and the 2nd actual companion. If you want depth of story just save the rest of the areas quests for when you have good time and those companions. Then you can quest with one and have 2 out running at all times.
