Wow, round two of answers were substantially worse than round one. Just let the person who answered the Sentinels questions handle these questions as it seems there are some combat team members who are lacking communication skills. No mean to offend you combat team, but the wording of these answers could have really been improved.

From what I am understanding, there are different levels of required skill for optimally playing each class. I believe that all classes are fairly balanced, dps, tanks and heals. However some classes require more skill to achieve this balance. This is a good thing because it keeps advanced players looking for a challenge interested in the game. If all classes were easy to play many of these players would get bored and leave. Then the easy-going players might have no game to play.

"In short, this is a perception problem, and it is one that you admit didn’t exist when Assault Specialist dealt more damage. When Assault Specialist damage goes up, will this perception issue go away?"

What this says is...." Hey derp, when your damage was better or on par with marauders and snipers you weren't complaining about utility."

Bioware the amount of favoritism to certain classes is beyond belief. Your responses were an insult to an entire community. You sat there on videos saying there wouldn't be a hybrid tax yet you tell sorcs that they should learn to LOS and heal up. You tell us Vanguards that our "ranged attacks" are the envy of guardian and shadow tanks??? Are you serious? I have 4 lvl 55s (Assault Vanguard, Focus Guardian, Infiltration Shadow, Scoundrel Healer) and in the process of lvling the rest of the ACs on the imp side. I would love it if all AC were viable instead of having to stick to classes you deem are worthy of your attention.

You insulted us and our ability to play this game. I challenge you the DEVS to LOG IN and play arenas with the classes you just said needed to L2P. Please we'll be waiting for you on the PTS. But we all know you won't. You've lost another customer. You guys honestly need to get fired because you honestly don't even understand your own game. Its all about making money in the end and I rather you follow the whims of your customers instead of giving us those responses that all in all were just insults.

They did. And they got stomped from the few videos I saw. Lots of backpedaling and other such noobish activity took place.

These questions are a gimmick, the make it appear that the devs are engaging in discussion with the community. This is just a way for them to either tell us we are wrong, or to leak tid-bits of info about future changes.

i agree with you fully, the perception of an entire community of players and the perception of a couple of people (the developers) who think they got it right while (again) the entire playerbase disagrees with you.thats the perception problem. You just told the entire sorc/sage and vanguard/powertech community to l2p. The pt rep even quit his role as a rep because he knew you would misshandle this mess so grossly!

For any serious pvp always bring smashers for dps and jugs for tanks and operatives for healing, nothing else cuts it for top level play cause those classes are the best at every single role that exists in pvp.

Other classes are "viable" but not optimal wich means that every player who wants to play and succeed in pvp is limited to the top performing classes.

Pt tank works and can at times shine a little bit but in the end, not worth it for 4vs4, 8vs8 or whatever, since jugs always outperform them.

Stuff like this is so painfully obvious to us, the players and yet it seems to elude the people who handle game balance.

When was the last time you saw a merc/commando healer in serious top level pvp? thats right, you dont!

when was the last time anyone picked a shadow as a main dpser for pve or pvp? thats right, you dont!

when was the last time anyone picked sorc/sage/operative dps for top ranked pvp? thats right, you dont!

you want me to go on? I keep on trucking all night long cause thats how many flaws you have in the game currently.

Why does mara/sentinel have the best burst dps, the best sustained dps, the best cooldowns and execute (wich dont show on the parses cause the little doll dont ever go to 30% health, your own words bw!)

we have a few classes outperforming all the other classes and you refuse to do anything about it and we, the community, cannot comprehend why.

Because quite frankly, you dont have the guts to answer this wall of text.

Out of all of the "Top 3 Answers" posted so far, this is the worst. I mean, these answers are insulting and, in one case, flat wrong.

Vanguards are not the only spec in the game with talents for higher damage below 30% health, and they parse lower than other specs with similar talents.

And the 30m range issue is, well, as other have pointed out, a bit silly. That is meaningless. Utterly meaningless.

I don't get it. The "Top 3 Answers" for the Sentinel and Gunslinger were very good, but you totally **** the bed on this one. Is there a different person handling questions for different classes?

I have played many MMOs were they've had class reps and "community discussions" and this is the first time EVER I've seen such arrogance from the DEVS. They sit here and basically tell us we are wrong and they got it right. Why has EA fired them already?

The difference is simple: the other two classes have 3 fully functioning skill trees that already outperform everything else in their own niche.

Also, if I see a dev use Burnout as an example of a good ability ONE MORE TIME, IM GOING TO PUT THE DEVS IN FIRE.

The DoT damage we can deliver is PITIFUL. Its even pitiful when multiplied 30%. Any of our DoTs will not crit for much more than 1-1.2k. ZOMG AN EXTRA 300-400 damage!!! THAT TOTALLY MAKES UP FOR ALL THE OTHER SHORTCOMINGS!

Dear Devs: YOU ARE DUMB. Sincerely, Commando Class Rep.

We are sorry that the community feels this way about the Vanguard. The short list you gave for the Vanguard was only one item behind the lists you gave for Shadows and Guardians.

Quality > quantity

Shadows and Guardians have better cooldowns than we do.

The road of comparison only leads to disappointment, and I believe many Guardians and Shadows are disappointed in their 30-meter range options, while Vanguards have many options when they are beyond melee range.

I play a Gunslinger. If a PT tried to take me on at range, I would laugh as I destroyed him. You literally just nerfed their range in the 2.4 PTS patch by requiring Rocket Punch instead of Flame Burst to start the DoT. I was there when you nerfed their range in 1.4 too. What the crap are you talking about? The PT is a melee class for all intents and purposes.

Guardians and Shadows also can’t use Shoulder Cannon to damage enemies while they are stunned or to add a bit of extra burst when they aren’t stunned. Vanguards wear heavier armor than Shadows and have much better long-range capabilities than Guardians.

A) Focus guardians' burst >>> Shoulder Cannon burst

B) Vigi Guardians are immune to CC after closing gap

C) Shadows are basically immune to CC for 12 seconds every minute

D) Armor isn't useful against all damage types (esp. in PvP)

E) Who cares what the long-range capabilities of Guardians are, when they can close the gap in 2-3 different ways?

In short, this is a perception problem, and it is one that you admit didn’t exist when Assault Specialist dealt more damage. When Assault Specialist damage goes up, will this perception issue go away? If not, we’ll address the issue, but we aren’t looking to make massive improvements that would only tip the scales in the other direction.

You realize this sounds incredibly arrogant and dismissive right? My momma would have slapped you for your tone.

Please keep in mind that Assault Specialist will perform considerably worse on a target dummy than it does in a real combat situation. There are two primary reasons for this. The most obvious reason is that the Burnout skill does not get its full effect on a target dummy, because a target dummy never falls below 30% health. The less obvious reason is because only around 48% of an Assault Specialist’s damage ignores armor, while for Tactics this number is around 65%. This means that the Assault Specialist has more to gain in situations where an armor debuff is present on the target, as should be the case in an operation.

The DoT needs serious buffs if it is expected to carry out your will on this.

2.4 is bringing a DPS upgrade to both Vanguard damage dealing specializations, as well as a burst upgrade for Assault Specialists and a harder-hitting Fire Pulse for Tactics. These upgrades should make Vanguard damage dealers more competitive in PvP, with faster TTKs than before, and intrinsically more survivability because of that.

Burst =/= survivability

It is fine to say that these specs are getting more burst, but the fact is, the TTK for a PT is not nearly as fast as a Jugg. Until you fix Smash, I refuse to accept any bullcrap about burst equaling survivability. When there is a superior burst spec, it doesn't matter, you will lose the DPS race.

Here is the deal, I am always rooting for you guys at BW. I want this game to succeed. I am calling you on this crap though. The Vanguard and Powertech communities (and for that matter the Sorc/Sage communities) deserve better than this.

You need to realize that you essentially said "it's all in your head" to the PTs/Vanguards and "L2P" to the Sorcs/Sages. This is a PR nightmare for you. I suggest you get your crap together before the PT and Sage questions. This community is simply responding to your call for questions, and while I appreciate the work you put into the questions that Paowee and I got together for Snipers (mostly Paowee), I think you did not apply the same effort to these questions. Even as Gunslinger rep, I feel that the class most deserving of answers is the Vanguard/Powertech. I feel bad that the questions we worked on got so much attention for a class that is doing rather well, while this underperforming, bleeding-players-left-and-right class did not get as much attention. I would recommend you try again with this group or apologize for coming off like arrogant know-it-alls that are trolling your devoted fanbase.

Remember all those reports from devs that got laid off after launch when all the downsizing started? They made comments about how the devs at bioware blame the customers for the failures in this game. After reading the responses to the Q and A for sorcs and vgs today its pretty obvious those guys werent lying now. Biowares insulting display of arrogance and general disdain for the community came out today. Time to unsub and wait for Wildstar

First, thank you GalnarDegana for your post.

Right now I only want to say one thing: There is a very bad undertone in parts of these answers, especially in this part.

Usually I condemn players who post on the forums for being impolite, but this time it is coming from a dev. It is as inacceptable as all the posts that are impolite or have a bad undertone, which come from the playerbase.

However, if we want the devs to watch their tone, we have to watch ours as well. I would like to ask you all to remain polite and formulate your responses as calm as possible. That way it is justifiable to ask the same from them.

Otherwise I fear that these forums will completely transform into a heap of childish arguments comint from both sides and there is nothing to gain anymore for anyone.

The devs tell the community we have a "perception problem," so basically we are delusional, then L2P and you want us to be polite? Hell no. This down right garbage customer service. unfortunately they only thing you can do is vote with your money, so I unsubed. The bare minimum that BW should do now is first apologize then actually re-answer the questions instead of these pure garbage responses that you can't sell to brand new player, forget to PvP and PvE veterans.

Also, haven't you heard? The class rep. resigned. I don't know even if the PT class rep. will stay after this fiasco. Plus, what else is there to discuss? We are noobs with perception issues.

indeed. I understand how a dev, who lives in a hole/dungeon, could write something so flippant to/for his customer base, but I don't understand how anyone else in his/her right mind at BW could look at that and allow it to see the light of day.

BTW: the only practical "ranged" advantages that VGs have are aoe taunt, sticky grenade, and if you're running assault, hammer shot stands a good chance of applying dot, so you can use hib once (no chance to proc > 10m). I would not waste hib on a target that someone else CC'd/dot'd unless it was a burning dot. including hib in the 30m ranged class is iffy at best. as has been mentioned before: BW nerfed VG ranged pretty hard in 1.4 with incendiary, assault plastique and cryo grenade.
