I love Star Wars but wish it was more grim, dark, gritty and mature

I'd like Fanfic to do a contest of sorts. We all agree [most of us] that Revan got handled rather badly in this game and the eponymous novel, and you see a lot of people saying 'they should have done this' or 'if only...' I'd like to see a competition for the best Revan SS that explains what happened after he left Republic Space at the end of K1. Non-canon, obviously.

We could call it: 'Can You Write Revan's Fate Better Than BioWare?'

Then it wouldn't be Star Wars, which is space fantasy with humor and adventure. There are other franchises to seek out if you want grim and dark, but I'm glad it will never be gritty. Some things need to remain fun.

I think Rogue One is about as gritty as Star Wars can comfortably go, with Empire Strikes Back being about as far as grim goes. Dark, not really, probably gloomy though at the most.

Years back when I still did fanfic for fun, I always at some point would get a wild urge to write something really grim horror-esque about a franchise I like as a cathartic exercise in picking apart the logic holes within the universe usually after I've bickered with someone over how some things don't make sense even within the respective rules for that franchise. For example, with a Star Trek one, it involved a really messed up focus around transporter technology. Closest I've managed for Star Wars was from a crossfic challenge where I was mixing Star Wars with George Romero's zombie films (this was before Death Troopers came out) which at most nitpicked Jedi philosophy, and somewhere I've got an outline buried on a disturbing explanation why the tech and factions barely change across time spans like from The Old Republic era to the Movies era. Don't know if I'll ever do anything with that outline beyond an experiment to see where it goes and only show it to a couple friends.
