Damage Types

There are 4 types of damage in TOR: Kinetic, Energy, Internal and Elemental. But what the difference? As far is I know, kinetic and energy are both affected by armor, others not. But what about differences between energy and kinetic for example?

There's really no difference between kinetic damage and energy damage as far as mitigation and such go. They exist as seperate damage types so that abilities that use them make sense (It wouldnt make much sense for a blaster bolt to deal kinetic damage, or for a melee attack to deal energy damage, for example).

Internal and Elemental damage are the same way - there's really no difference between them, but they exist seperately in order to make more sense on abilities. Bleeds are internal damage, while elemental damage is used for things like fire attacks.

5 types, you missed 'weapon' damage.

No there is no "weapon" damage. If a tool type talks about "weapon" damage, it is referring to the type damage your equipped weapon does. The weapon will tell you the damage type.

There for 4 damage types and 4 attack types. The damage types are explained above.

The Attack types are Melee, Ranged, Tech, and Force. The implications are similar but have to do with defense and shielding. Melee and Ranged attacks can be shielded/defensed (dodged, parried) while Tech and Force attacks cannot. Also, any crit, regardless of the attack type cannot be shielded or parried.

So a Melee attack that does Energy damage (Jedi Warrior weapon attack), can be shielded or defensed due to the attack type. If the attack lands out right or or is shielded (a portion is absorbed by the shield), what gets through will then be mitigated by armor b/c it's energy damage.

A Tech attack that does Elemental damage (BH or Trooper Incendiary missle/round) or a Force attack that does Internal damage cannot be shielded/defensed AND armor has no effect on the damage it does.

And all the other possible combinations! A Force attack can do Kinetic Damage or a Ranged attack can do Internal damage (if it makes sense) and the avoidance rule then mitigation rule applies.

This all can affect what kind of decisions you make about talents, gear, etc that will be most effective for you.

This is all completely correct.

Just to expand a little bit on attack types:

Force and Tech attacks are subject to the target's resistance, which works just like defense, but affects tech and force instead of ranged and melee. (Resistance isn't present in a lot of places, but one example is the bounty hunter/trooper 4-pc bonus: "Increases tech and force resistance by 2%".) Pretty much everything has a base 0% resistance, which is why classes like Sorcerers and Sages don't really care about accuracy.

Also, unlike with damage types, there actually is a mechanical difference between all the different attack types. For example, a sniper in cover receives a bonus 20% ranged defense while their melee defense is not affected.
