Cannot Install PTS

Recommended Posts

Hello, I read the "Getting Started on PTS" forum post and followed instructions "To access the Public Test Server", the first of the Main Assets 337 downloads and then starts to install, but the percentage complete counter is stuck at 0%, nothing installs, and I cannot exit the launcher without going to the Task Manager and using End Task to close the launcher.

SWOTR runs and plays normally without issue.

I am using Windows 10 Pro, v.1909 with all the latest updates.

I am a subscriber.

I have uninstalled Bitraider, there is no "ST" in the bottom left-hand corner of the launcher.

I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game on this computer.

I have installed SWTOR on another computer, without removing Bitraider, and run into the same problem at the same point in the install process for PTS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do you have enough space on your drive for the PTS? I can't say for sure atm, but I think the PTS requires almost as much space as the main game.

Also, and again I can't say for sure, but are you running the Launcher "as administrator" ?

Thank you for the reply.

I run the Launcher as "Administrator"

Current "available" disk space is 751 GB

I also noticed that during the download of PTS, it states that it is downloading 1.4~ GB of Main Assets 337, but the download directory is labeled: assets_swtor_test_main_335to336, and when the launcher states it is "Installing" the downloaded zip file, the file size is only 1.14GB in size. After shutting down the Launcher via Task Manager, I open the zip file that was downloaded and several files within the zip file are 0 bytes in size.

I believe that the entire file is not downloading correctly / completely.

I have enabled and reinstalled Bitraider just to see if that may have been the cause of the PTS install issue, but I run into the same problem with or without Bitraider installed.

I can open the zip file that downloads ( assets_swtor_test_main_335to336.zip / assets_swtor_test_main_335to336.z01 ), but I cannot extract any files because the zip file is password protected.

How do I add a file to my forum posts?

Thanks again for any help in solving this issue.

I did the following:

NOTE: This is almost a new game download

Ensure the Launcher is NOT running

right mouse click on game shortcut and select open file location

open the launcher.settings file in notepad and locate the below line

, "PatchingMode": "{ \"swtor\": \"BR\" }"

Change to:

, "PatchingMode": "{ \"swtor\": \"SSN\" }"

and

,"bitraider_disable": false

Change to:

, "bitraider_disable": true

SAVE the changes.

Delete the BitRaider folder then start the launcher

and I also uninstalled all of the swtor_test_ assets from the assets folder,

and now when I try to download the PTS it says: "Installing Main Assets 336 (0%) and just hangs there.

The main game download just fine.

I got it to finally download.

Windows 10 64 bit

I deleted everything swtor_test_assets related per instructions:

...\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic\Assets

and cut all the files that are called swtor_test_* to another folder.

Run the normal game environment to make sure all is functioning correctly.

If all is well you can delete the folder you moved all of the test files into.

Then instructions per customer service (they were really fast in replying btw :) )

>Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and click the Services tab.

>Click on the Services… button on bottom right of the Task Manager.

>Scroll down to find 'BitRaider Mini-Support Service'.

>Right-click BitRaider Mini-Support Service and select Properties.

>Change the Startup Type to 'Automatic' and click OK.

>Close Task Manager and launch the game as Administrator.

Repair the BitRaider Client.

>Make sure that the Launcher is turned off and the game is not running.

>Find the Launcher.settings file in the game installation directory.

>Run the Launcher Repair Utility. (https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/star-wars/star-wars-the-old-republic/swtor-launcher-troubleshooting-guide/#repairlauncher

)

>This will fix the Launcher and reset it to BitRaider by default.

I had to repair it twice using #repairlauncher as I found more swtor_test_assets

...then I was finally able to download the PTS patch.

  • 2 weeks later...

My thanks to everyone for all the replies.

It turns out that the launcher was only downloading the first set of required files for installing PTS on my computer, when it actually requires three (3) sets of files to be downloaded. The launcher was only downloading these files:

"assets_swtor_test_main_335to336.zip" and "assets_swtor_test_main_335to336.z01"

I downloaded the other required files myself, after some extensive research. Once I had all three sets of files, placed them in their own separate directories, started the launcher, logged in and switched to the PTS server within the launcher, then the launcher was able to install these files and begin the process of downloading and installing all the required files to get PTS installed.

In the event that anyone else runs into this problem, I have listed the required files and their download links below.

  • 1 month later...

Mine hangs on installing Main assets 340.

Why are the zip files passworded? Also, clearer instructions on where to place these files would be extremely helpful. Also.. the zip files are passworded... do they need to be unpacked?
