Don't tell people to not pvp

Just ran into a jerk in unranked who told me to not que anymore because apparently they judged me to be sub par and unworthy of having fun in a video game that they control (sarcasm)

I've been pvp'ing for a few hours on and off tonight on different characters and it's actually been an unusually fun night with fun banter even when not winning but then this edge-lord walks in.

Just don't be that person please and thank you.

Amen. It's a game. Have fun.

These eliteest idiots in ranked are a joke. The community is so small. We need more people queing, not less.

I made a mistake in a ranked match and got globaled. It sucked. This guy on my team started telling me not to queue, being really toxic. next match I out DPS'd him and landed two killing blows. He was on his high horse, and I said there are 8 people in queue for ranked. How can you say you are good when we are playing the same people over and over again? I asked him if he bragged about being the tallest midget?

Thank you! I've pvp'd in every mmo I've played that had it. Always was a ranked type player, this is the first game that I stay out of ranked because of that kind of attitude. Am I the best of the best? Probably not...*coughs quietly* but should I then not be allowed to try at all?

Not looking for charity just a chance to have fun and to enjoy the game.

Dude - I'm in the same boat. Been pvping for years in WOW. Am I a great player? No, but I'm decent, I know my class, know most of the defensive and offensive CD's of other classes. I try to improve, but it's a freakin game. So my advice is keep on keeping on! Have fun. It's your money do whatever you want with the game. Don't pay attention to them at all.

There's a very logical reason for this, at least in solo rated arenas. You don't get to choose your teammates in solos, so if one person on the team is notably worse than the others, he becomes a drag on the whole team.

However, since you win/lose as a team, if the poor player "causes" a loss, it drags down the rating of every other player on the team even though they had nothing to do with him except being unlucky enough to be teamed up with him by the matchmaker.

Thus, you get some rage monkeys who unleash their verbal fury when they lose matches to players that they know they are well-better than, but they couldn't overcome the weakness of their own teammates.

This sort of rage monkey reaction is actually par for the course. I'm not sure if you've played any team sports in any stage of your life, but getting upset and expressing anger at teammates is really - really - common from little league on up through grown-arse "adults" in professional sports. The funniest example of this is Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors, NBA). He will unleash his frustration on any teammate at any time (he even unloaded on Kevin Durant - ha!).

Anyway, it's wrong, and a good coach will grab the little twerp throwing a fit and bench him in little league to (re)condition his behavior, but that doesn't happen nearly enough, and it doesn't happen at all in esports, which are mostly anonymous and impersonal.

Telling you not to queue isn't even a bad thing. And it's technically just a person expressing his opinion, thus telling you he thinks you shouldn't queue.

Anyway, it's preseason, so none of this makes any sort of sense. The matches are meaningless, and if I had 306 gear, I'd be practicing in yolos myself (also picking up better mats for stat itemization). So from that perspective, the rage monkey stuff is outright comical.

But it was unranked. So the person should have just kept their opinion to themselves.

Even if it was ranked, the person should still keep their opinion to themselves. Anyone who projects that kind of rage over not getting enough digital points in a video game doesn’t need to play video games. Seriously, when you die, your SWTOR rank isn’t going in your obituary or your headstone.

There's logic behind this. If enough people quit queuing, server mergers will happen faster, which will increase queue variance and quality.

I highly doubt that. BioWare will just offer cheap transfers again. It took them 3 years to merge the last servers from when it was needed. I can’t see them merging the servers again before they shut the game down. And if they do,

It will be to merge all servers into one location again to save on overheads. Which maybe the US or it maybe Ireland, so you should be careful what you wish for.

You’re not wrong. Just pointing out to Fox that it wasn’t ranked cause his reply seemed to indicate that he thought it was.

yep. but there are plenty of maniacally try-hard players in regs too. like this one sin tank. he rages so easy. it's amazing. if I'm on his team in VS, I"ll just stand on him while he's in stealth to see him blow up. it's amazing! like pressing the teddy ruxspin bear in the tummy to make him sqeak!

I was on sports teams all growing up actually and when we had a sub par player we'd helped them become better if they were willing to work at it so not sure where that analogy was meant to go.

But also you came very close to the issue with ranked, again this was unranked though. Ranked has turned into the same 8 people que'ing all the time because it's a toxic gate-kept like a small backwoods town not allowing new blood in which keeps the cycles repeating.

And telling someone to not play at all is a bad thing and if I have to explain why it's a bad thing I...*throws up hands*

Also I'm not saying to not talk to your teammates, I grumble, people grumble, especially when it's obvious some people are purposefully not trying to win I'm just saying maybe think how it feels to be told not to play yourself. Maybe put yourself in the other persons or maybe remember this is a video game and not real life mortal combat :|

I wasn't judging you. or justifying them. I was just giving background to explain the logic behind such behavior.

As trix pointed out, I had assumed this was a discussion about solo rated. although the same basic dynamics apply in regs as solo ranked b/c you cannot choose your team. and for the players who lack the ability to compete in solo rated arenas (or adamantly hate TDM in general), regs become the de facto rated or "high stakes" competitive version of swtor pvp for them, and they act as described in solos.

good for you on your experience in youth sports (seriously, that's not a swipe). it's not at all normal in my extensive experience (both as participant and observer over 40-some years). of course there are always players and coaches who are not ridiculously aggressive, btw. but there are almost always - at least - 1 or 2 rage monkeys on every team, and adversity is usually required to reveal them. I should clarify that this is gendered. the boys teams see this significantly more frequently. however, I have a lot more experience with boys teams as well, which may skew my data set. I rarely see girls teams practicing. as a general rule in most areas of the world, however, females have been gendered/groomed to be more passive, "caring," and less confrontational. so it's speculative but, I think, compelling.

Do tell people not to PvP for the right reasons.

Don't tell people not to PvP cause you think they're garbage and you want to vent your frustration at them.

Do tell people not to PvP because, for the premade farming your spawn, the cruelty is the point, and raging at them makes them happy.

I tell people to stop PvPing a lot, especially in thrash games. And I do it mostly in Regz.

Why not? I play PvP to be competitive and to win. Regular Warzones are fun if people have the same objective.

Objective to win. In my first server most games had this objective that to win and even when you lose sometimes it is fun, fighting hard for something.

So if you do not call for losing a door in VS a node or cannon in the other maps, ignoring buffs and CPs in OPG, and for fighting in our defence line in HB, I will definitely tell you to stop queing PVP and stick to other parts of the game.

So yes I will keep telling people who make Reg games not fun to stop queing.

I agree people who don't care and don't try to win are drags in regs. The Original poster was talking about Ranked and toxcitiy in ranked. Much different from what you are saying.

You're absolutely right. Anyone that tells you on this thread that you are wrong are socialists. You paid for your sub, and not them. Don't let them tell you how or what to play.

I have a handicap and can't play rank because of it so I'm exactly where I should be when I play regs and ppl that complain to me in regs I say screw off and if they do it more than once, People tell me I should report for harassment.

yeah, tons of toxic oximorons in SWTOR pvp, bioware should but won't punish them though, probably due to how low the population already is in both pvp systems (un and ranked)

it is understandable, but on teenagers and kids, having grown men throwing such tantrums is a case of study...

Also, it's highly likely that those kids (or manchildren) actually add people into their ignore list after ranked matches, if that's the case ranked will eventually die out, it's already pretty barren as it is.

This is a misnomer regarding ignore lists. Unlike pve content, putting someone on ignore does not impact the pvp queue because the queue “ignores” the ignore list for pvp.
