EQ2 failed with this concept, so they changed it, and it was for the better.

Let's make comparisons:

WoW
Zone onto other continents.
Zone into instances (dungeons/raids).
Zone into battlegrounds.
Everywhere else is OPEN WORLD.

Swtor
Zone into Orbital Station.
Zone into Imperial Fleet.
Zone into Ship.
Click Map on Ship, 3 times.
Zone out of Ship.
Zone out of Terminal.
Zone into Planet.
Zone into Group Phases. (seamless btw)
Zone into Flash Points.
Zone into Warzones.

zone here, click there, clicking immersion everywhere! brilliant design philosophy.
This is so immersive bioware! We just have to click over 9000 times a day to travel.
The comparison to WoW sort of falls flat, since last I checked people typically are either in an instance/BG/raid or sitting in SW/Org. Not to mention the amount of people who level their toons entirely thru BGs/dungeons, think they care about the "open world" aspect?

Also, we're going from planet to planet here, it's not like crossing the bridge from Elwynn to Westfall.

Need an instant /level 50 button too?

I personally don't see this as a big issue, unless you are heading to fleet 20 times a day.
Agreed. We're going to see MMORPG's destroyed fairly soon. We will start seeing MMORPG's allowing for instant levels via cash, automatic buttons to destinations and the MMO part of the game is going to go straight out the window. :/

The only thing I think they could get rid of is the need to actually launch the ship in order to be inside of it. For example, if I need to access my vault, why do I need to launch my ship into orbit in order to do so? That's not only an excess of load screens, it also doesn't make sense.

The Travel process itself is great. It wouldn't feel nearly as much like SW without it. I suppose I can understand that 30 sec load screens are too much, but it's not because the game sucks, it's because your computer is severely dated.

My load screens only take 5 seconds.
I agree with this. My only complaint on this topic is that you are forced to launch. I'd like to enter my ship then choose to launch or not. I'd also like to be able to have the option to invite more than just my group into my hanger. It's such a large space, that it would be great to have guild access or friends list access so people can choose to enter the same instance for gatherings or guild events.

Having that many loading screens between planets is still completely unnecessary and just serves to annoy people with pointless running and loading.

Yes I entirely agree, in this day and age, loading shouldn't be so constant in an mmo. People want to spend time playing, not running from one green door to another. Sure lore wise going through a space port before landing makes sense. However these space ports/hubs are just re-uses. They serve no purpose, and have no content, besides the rare one quest/dialogue.

I don’t see how anyone can defend this arbitrary design flaw, or how Bioware overlooked this. Sadly it gets worse as the levels go.

It's more than 30 seconds from the entrance to the spaceport to the hangar. Can I buy your crack?

Questing-Spaceport: 1 or 2 minutes isn't too bad.
Spaceport-Shuttlebay Black Screen-Ship: 1 minute - Being generous, but hey, not bad.
Ship Loading Screen-Map: 30 seconds
Mirror the top to bottom.

Basically, everytime you want to take a break in questing whether it's to move to a new zone or just get back to the fleet (with Emergency Fleet Pass on CD) it's a complete ordeal. When you add up all the time it gets a little ridiculous, but individually, sure. It's not that bad.

Travel in general is my least favorite part of the game so far. I'm actually in love with this game and I LOVE big maps, but it's kind of a pain when everything is so spread out. One thing I must support though is that even though you only get a couple quests in an area, they're meaningful in that you do a decent chunk and then get a decent reward. You're not picking up 10 quests in the Borean Tundra to get 25% of a level. Now there's a guy that doesn't even like this aspect and is complaining that he's overleveled from doing every quest and mixing in warzones and flashpoints every day. Can't please them all.

I actually like it. It makes me feel like a real traveler. Similar to flying to another country. You arrive at the airport, sometimes you have to hop on a bus to get to another terminal, etc.

Honestly my only issue with going to my ship is the forced launch. It would be nice if it only did the launch vid if I actully picked a new world or something not when I just go in to use the holo or chat with a crew member.
