In fact I can think of only one major global economy that is recommending relaxing the lockdown purely on economic reasons, and without having mass screening in place.

I think easing the lockdowns is MAINLY cause of the economy, why else would u do it? For people to have something to do? There is no real reason i think. People could be locked at home for months like this. I preffered it this way. Streets empty, dont have to go to work, kids at home, family together. I could have that all year. Once or twice a week i go to shop and thats all. Air was clean etc, there were only advantages from this.

But not all have it as simple as us. Many had issues after a few weeks, financial issues. So releasing people is only for the economy, cant imagine something else. Screening is not a requirement for this. All that people can do is check temperature, wear mouthpiece and gloves. Thats all, nothing special about it.

I am going to build an altar dedicated to you and your delicious posts.

On a serious note, it's what I said a few days back, that it's really easy to pull out the "my mom/dad is X or Y" card or the "I have friends in X or Y" one. Since none of us is able to confirm the claim, we are left with either believing the poster on their word or to dismiss it as a false argument uttered in an attempt to appear authoritative in a discussion. And claiming stuff like that is actually easier than providing credible proof to one's claims, so I am not surprised some have opted to argue in that manner.

Maybe I should make up a story that I have an uncle who is a member of Parliament and is besties with our Prime-Minister, sharing all kinds of important information with us, hmm... or do you think saying he's the Minister of Health would give my arguments more authority?

Yes, and I think we can all see how disastrous that’s going to be for America. I feel extreme empathy for them at this time because the leadership (if you can call it that) is only interested in their own personal wealth at the detriment of the American people. Which will end up costing them more in lives and money.

It’s these sorts of irresponsible people and ideas that’s going to keep this problem going longer than it needs to. It’s also why Australia is still saying we will be restricting international travel till a vaccine is found or to countries that are being responsible in handling the situation. Which means I doubt we’ll see international travel from the US or the America’s open anytime this year.

I expect we’ll open travel to NZ first, but that will still be months away. Then we’ll slowly open it up to other countries by the end of the year,

I’m not a highly religious person (At least not structured religion), but my prayers and wishes are with everyone around the world dealing with this, especially in countries with leaders who don’t care about anything besides their own “personal” economic wealth.
If the world was just, it would only be those leaders that got personally sick and had personal losses, both in lives and money. I think that’s the only way people like them learn to appreciate a situation. If it doesn’t personally affect them, they don’t give a **** about every day people.

You decide yourself whats more likely to be true, that someone comes here claiming to have parents who are both doctors and he has friends OR someone comes here claiming his uncle is the prime minister?? I am not claiming any kind of unbelievable information, its simple stuff and you go on and make a huge thing out of it.

Disclaimer: I don't know shi7! I'm going to talk out of my azz based on my experience thus far.

I live in a predominantly Asian community in NYC. It's been a few weeks now. Every store on the block, with the exception of perhaps one or two supermarkets, are shuttered closed. We're supposed to be on a self imposed quarantine. However, people are still going outside. Let me rephrase that, Asian people are still going outside. The ones that hardly speak any English. They are either uninformed, uninstructed, or simply oblivious. It's clear, at least to me, that they are not receiving the same information I am which is buckle down, stay inside, and if you have to go out then wear a mask and practice social distancing by maintaining at least 6ft from the next person. I don't see none of that. NONE OF THAT! This is where the problem lies: Failure to grasp the urgency of the situation. People are creatures of habit and it takes extreme experiences to curb behavior. Apparently this lock down is not severe enough. There is no face to this virus and the symptoms show up after two weeks. People are bored and rambunctious. The feeling of emergency has settled. Equate this to the first nice day in spring when everyone runs outside with a t-shirt on thinking it's freaking July and 90 degree weather. It ain't the summer yet, Dummy! This situation has plateaued but can easily spike back up again and will because of dummies not practicing safety.

In the army, we trained to go to war. This time the war is in our head. You're not being deployed to go fight. All you have to do is stay at home to do your part. It's so easy yet hard, why? Do you not value your own life?
