I had no idea what I was doing, obviously. Running the wrong way in voidstar, because who knew the spawn points changed!? Defensive Cooldowns? What are those? Keybinding? I never had to do that to beat the biggest, baddest boss in my PvE story! Etc. Etc.

NO ONE yelled at me. I got a guild invite, and got into a guild where they gave some advice, but mostly just didn't worry too much about it and let people learn. It was what you might call a "welcoming" community. I am 100% sure that if I tried to start PvP from scratch today I would not even bother. As I've said, even in lowbies there are people that will start "chatting" that people should stop queuing, or "learn to PvP". If I see that and it's a same-faction target I will try to whisper said target afterwards and tell them to ignore the idiots.
That’s one of the biggest problems with what we have now, no one wants to help and if you try, you get told to shut up.

At least when we had lowbies and Mids working, people could learn in a less stressful environment. It was a great place to recruit people and then train them up for end game pvp,

Now lowbies and Mids are unviable for real lvling. So no one plays as they lvl anymore. Even if it does pop, it’s 90% arena, which means you can’t teach people how to play objective pvp.

I guess if you intend on training for ranked, it’s good because all you get is arena.

According to BioWare, they introduced matchmaking for regs last summer. Everyone noticed the change after they announced it. We are not imagining it.
Now wether it’s working or not (properly) is the problem because I’ve not once had a game when matchmaking was working as I think it should.
We used to have better games before they added the matchmaking in reg (except when people stacked healers).
The only good thing (that sort of works) is splitting the healer/tanks to reduce some of the statcking.
IMO, they should remove the rest of their matchmaking in regs and just keep the healer/tank setting they have now.

I honestly did not notice a difference in quality of reg matches after the update. I had awful matches, lopsided matches, close matches, all the different variables just as I did before the update.

Maybe the quality of matches or seemingly more awful players on your team has more to do with less vets playing and more noobs and nothing with any sort of secret matchmaking stat BW is using now in regs?

I did notice what seemed to be a better split of healers though. Seemed that teams rarely got 3-4 healers on one side like it did in the past before the update. But, maybe this is a figment of my imagination or just luck, chance, I don't know.

Until BW officially explains how they improved/changed matchmaking in regs, I can't take individuals anecdotal evidence (including mine) that something was actually changed with that supposed matchmaking update.

I think that sums up everything that’s wrong with people’s attitudes towards reg pvp. When did pvp stop being about winning because it’s only regs? Just because it’s not ranked or as emotionally competitive (for some people), doesn’t mean there should be no competitive spirit or that you shouldn’t try to win.

I really hope Bioware read my other thread about choosing maps and extra incentives to give pvp a much needed injection.
But so far I doubt they’ve even looked at it because I asked Musco if he could just acknowledge he was passing it on. But nada, nothing, no yellow post to say “we got it and passed it on”.
So much for improved communication.
I hate to say it.. but in a way he is right. Regs is kinda pointless as those players aren't rewarded with anything....

At least they could add some kind of PVP vendor that sells cosmetics, gear, mounts etc.. that you can buy with some kind of currency you get from unranked.

And some of us have played thousands of reg games and after a while people just don't care and make their own games within the game.

For me its always about triple capping and dueling. If we have 2 nodes, I always want to nuke the guy guarding the 3rd and cap it. Of if they lead us with 2 turrets I always try to solo one of their side turrets while they are busy farming numbers mid and hope that the guard panicks and forgets to call.

It's not that I don't care about winning, but it makes no difference if I lose.... Some people in regs really like to flame and call the team trash and then rage quit.

To me regs are fulfilling and fun, and just that alone gives them worth. Just because an activity doesn't have a physical reward doesn't mean it's a worthless activity.

Since every reg match takes personal time and energy of each player, I find it difficult to justify ruining someone else's game with lack of effort or any other bad behavior just because no one is getting a reward at the end of the match.

I do agree that regs should have better incentives though. That would encourage more players to queue for PVP, especially lowbies/mids.

Pft. Where'd you get the idea that anything in an MMO is about others? Neither of those M's stand for other people in the game with you! MMO stands for "Meglomaniac Me Online". Worrying about others.... lol... you newb!

Now excuse me. I have an inner city pick-up basketball game to get into. I don't actually want to play basketball because I'm bored with that, I just want to practice my dribbling minigame. I'm sure they won't mind.

Whenever I see someone say "its just regs who cares!" I think the person is number one; a kid, and number two; they probably just got into ranked and suddenly have this inflated ego and think now they are important.

Children usually behave this way, that and some of our basement dwelling manchildren.

Woo hoo! Ranked toxicity! Finally!!!!

Not directed at me. I guess I saw a win-trader. Not sure. Was a merc who for a couple matches sure did go down easy. Then a game later, all the sudden he didn't go down so easy. Someone on my team mentioned he was win-trading, and *that* time, his bud was not on our team. There were a lot more swear words used though.

I dunno. I have plenty of games where I do something stupid and I drop like a stone in water. And then I'll have a few where I get focused and I manage to retreat at just the right time and in just the correct direction, and I do a lot better. But I haven't been in games with the accused before (that I remember) so it's possible the pattern for those two holds for people that have encountered them more. For me, I'm just bad no matter who is around.

Anyway, daily done and a few extra towards the weekly. Overall a +3 day so far. Helps make up for about a -6 day yesterday.

I don't find it surprising that your experience hasn't been very toxic.

The people that get the toxicity, sometimes deservedly, are the inverse of what I described above: they get globaled constantly, are delusional about their skill level, and they don't take any advice or try to get better.

Nothing about what you described deserves a toxic response. Its a video game. Something you do for recreation. IMHO if the things you listed trigger a player to become toxic toward a teammate then perhaps the toxic player shouldn't be playing video game. This is for fun, not money. I feel the same way about cheaters btw. If a player is so serious and desperate to win a game thats intended to be just for fun they probably shouldnt be playing.
