Hey folks,

Just in case anyone missed the news article, we are going to be cancelling our cantina event in NY. Instead, we are going to do a livestream. Here is the article copy:

Quote:
As we review safety protocols for our events going forward, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Star Wars: The Old Republic community cantina event scheduled for October 4, 2018 in New York City.

While we will miss interacting with you in New York, we’ll be taking the event online and will host a Community Cantina Livestream Event in October. Tune into this stream at www.twitch.tv/swtor for details we would have been sharing in New York regarding our ‘Jedi Under Siege’ update. We will also have dev team Q&A, giveaways, and more. Stay tuned for details on the livestream!

We know that many of you were looking forward to meeting the development team as well as other members of the community in person. We look forward to meeting you at future events and will keep you posted as soon as we have more event news to share.

Thank you for understanding and may the Force™ be with you,

-The Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Community Team

That's unfortunate...the events truly humanize you guys. I hope it's something that you guys can resume in the future
All warfare is based on deception If his forces are united, separate them If you are far from the enemy, make him believe you are near A leader leads by example not by force

I would hope that this livestream will be longer than just 30 minutes...

Damn, sad to see that -- these have always been a lot of fun

Hopefully we'll see another one here in NY at some time in the future!

EDIT: I hadn't initially made the connection with the recent EA-sponsored Madden event where multiple people were shot and killed -- obviously it makes sense for EA to prioritize hosts' and participants' safety.

It's pretty scary that this has to be a concern for game developers - is it because of the recent attack at an EA event? Come to Britain - the worst you'll get from us fans/players here is a rant if the cafe runs out of tea! And maybe a protest balloon

Considering that devs of this studio have actually had death threats thrown at them in the past from gamers upset by studio decisions... I do not blame them one bit for being very careful about live events moving forward. The recent shooting at the Madden competition makes it clear that there is no limit to where a disgruntled gamer will take things to vent their anger.

Sadly... a few sociopaths can ruin things for everyone else by doing a nutty and forcing companies to step back in their direct interactions with players at an event venue. And while I agree with you that firearms should be less of a concern in Britain.. you do have your own security issues to deal with as well, because firearms are not the only way to spread mayhem.
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.
