Why?

Because I do not sit on pins and needles for the next SW movie. When one releases, if it looks good in previews and gets reasonable ratings on Rotten Tomatoes ... then I go see it in the theater. If not.. then I wait for it to come on one of the premium channels like HBO.

I DO NOT get caught up in all the fanfest/fanrage that surrounds these sorts of things. They are going to make the movie THEY want to make.. and SW fans have virtually zero influence of their decisions. The movies will do well regardless of "fan based writing/directing"
Happy Friday to you too!

I'm excited about it, I hope it is an old republic film. Love GoT and love SW, and if the people who work on those work together, I think it'll be very cool.

could be.. but there really is no precedent for this, and unless you are an old school KOTOR player or SWTOR player... choosing this timeline would probably create even more backlash then they received from SW fans from the most recent movie release. There remains A LOT of passion and attachment to the original trilogy and it's prequel and sequel trilogies. Not that I think they care about fan input much... but I bet the marketing/branding geeks at Disney DO.

The good part is since they pried the IP out of Luca's hands.. Disney seems to be more open about expanding the story base for SW movies.
When you find yourself surrounded by hostile Clowns... always go for the "Juggler" first.

Fans do have influence, hence why J.J is going around insulting people if they don't like the movie, taking criticism in the worst possible manner. I will concede and say yeah, any star wars movie is probably going to go well, but will it do flying colors and meet expectations? probably not if battlefront 2 is a good example of this.

Like you say, there's a lot that remains to be seen, but I'm hopeful it would turn out great. I think most people would be up for a Revan movie, he seems to be the one figure that inspires a lot of people, but that said, you can't please everyone. I'm not a huge Revan fan, but I'd watch it.

What would be brilliant, in my thinking, would be instead of focussing so much on the Jedi, that for a change of pace they'd focus on the Sith. I do love great villains and I'd like to spend some time on the dark side. Star Wars has always been a bit predictable in that it's Good Vs Evil and good always prevails. I'd enjoy some darker Star Wars movies, with a great villain(s) that we can root for over the sanctimonious good.

The problem with this is while it sounds good on paper, I'm not sure it would be successful. Star Wars fans are pretty terrible (in general) and always say they want something different. Then someone comes along and actually does try to do something different, and everyone loses their crap.

But if they do something that's very traditional Star Wars, like good vs. evil and all that, then everyone says, "Boring. This is just a retelling of the originals."

It's quite honestly a no win situation. If I was an established writer or producer you couldn't pay me enough money to write something in this universe. Fans are untenable.

Well whatever it is, it'll be interesting to see. I guess there are some mixed opinions in here, which is fine! Some people don't care, some people do.

If this is to defend the reception from the new movies... its because of forced agendas, not because of a bad audience. Look at the Clone Wars series, that thing is revered by almost everyone as a masterpiece of art, between character development arcs, the music, (later on) animation, voice acting, just... everything about it. It's new and expanded the world, people didn't complain about rehashing and weren't nostalgia geeks, some fans are what you described as above, but most aren't.

I would only like an Old Republic movie (or whatever) if they guarantee that they will follow the previous TOR canon. I don't want to end up having Revan as Malgus' brother or something crazy like that.
Bioware offers a friend referal system which gives referred players a couple of goodies (incl. 7 free days of sub and a neat free 10 x inventory slot for every character) and referring players some little shinies and cartel coins.
I would be happy if you choose my referral link to grab your free goodies.

There is no forced agenda unless you want to see one. TLJ was not without its faults, but the amount of hate it got was just way over the top. I understand some people will like it and some people won't. But the hostility and toxicity of the fanbase towards the film matches a lot of the vitriol I've seen directed at this game.

SWTOR was never perfect. But it wasn't a bad game.
