does anyone know if the massassi "could" be a playable race or are they too brutish and not smart enough as a species to have a story for?

I agree. In the begining they were the sith pureblood footsoldier caste but during their exile on Yavin inbreeding and isolation turned in to simple brutes.

well if they couldn`t be playable I`d still figure with how closely they are related to to purebloods that they`d play a bigger role in sith storylines

If you blink, you miss the comment on Yavin 4 where they mention that they're your distant genetic cousins if you're playing as a Pureblood.
