Is there any use for the Republic social badge other than taking place in the inventory?
In peace the sons are those who bury their parents.
In war the parents are those who bury their sons.

It probably only exists as the goal of the noob "tutorial" for the social vendor. I doubt that it has any purpose at this time. Throw it in your bank vault just in case.

You use it to show your support for your faction. I don't know if you've actually used it or not, but the Republic and Imperial Social Badges briefly put up a large symbol of your faction above your head (a hologram based on the faction's color) and your character raises her hands in the air and cheers.

It is a social item (hence the name, the vendor, and the requirement), nothing more.
