If your guildies aren't talking to each other, guess what? Your guild isn't very sociable. The movies take up a small fraction of your time online, so yeah people aren't talking for the minute or two they're running. Deal with it.

Most people don't speak socially during raids, or while fighting so blaming the aforementioned game features are a double standard.

My guild chat usually has people talking and out TS3 server always has conversations.

Bottom line, if you need game mechanics to be social, you aren't a very social person.
Sorry you're annoyed. You clearly fall into the "try harder" camp.

This is the first MMO where I literally tried to get a group going for an hour with no luck. Spamming general, setting my LFG comment, yelling near the area and asking players in-person in a nearby social hub.

There was no response.

I have been in cases where I've had to wait to complete a larger group. That's perfectly acceptable. But I've literally never seen this situation where I couldn't find a single group mate in an hour of searching.

I'm glad you've found a social group in the game and have no problems getting groups going. I know I'm having the problem. I see from posts that others are too. Why is that happening?

How many hours should I spend to meet your requirement of "trying harder?"

Actually, one of the first things I do with new toons is to go into the setup and uncheck 3 channels:

1. General
2. Trade
3. PvP

There is SO much stuff flying through that window that I don't see what I want to see: Guild chat and combat/loot text.

I find that they are doing everything in their power to make the game ANTI-SOCIAL.

1. Everything is instanced. The open world areas are sharded. So you see less of the populations. Bump into less of the population. Have little reason and a huge road block to interaction which strips the social building blocks.

2. There are no server boards. So you cannot see anyone post from your server easily. No one has the out of game chats and discussions that make a tighter community. We are all lost amongst millions of complaints on a feral generic board.

-There is not place for the RPers to post and coordinate events. There is no place for PvP players and guilds to make rivalries and pepper propoganda that builds beyond the bland mechanic of the game. No place for guilds to communicate between each other and make community efforts that could benefit the server as a whole.

3 There is no Global channel to compensate for the lack of any where else to communicate. All the channels inside the game are regulated to planet areas. If you are on taris, you get to talk to the Taris community. To talk to the tatooine community you have to.. travel to tattooine.

-That is literally how it is shaping up so far. Little isolated communities within the linear game.

So.. I do not know of any way to break up the communities on each server and within each server as efficiently as they have done so far.

I'll never understand the need for players to insist that just because THEY don't like something, that EVERYONE doesn't like something.

You don't like where it is and you feel that your socialization is suffering because of it. Fine. Personally? I'm fine with where it is, and have no trouble paying attention to the chat.

Can you point out where I'm insisting that everyone doesn't like this?

Thought so.

If it wasn't, you'd be crying that you're having to fight too often for mob kills/quest items. The chat window allows you to talk to everyone on the planet, not just in your instance, so you're still more than welcome to be social.

That's fair. I would like to see server forums come up.

Yes, it's off site, but it gives you a place.

That's not entirely what I meant. You're insisting that because you think the placement of the chat window sucks, that "all too often things go unnoticed because no one is paying attention to it."

Or to use your words:

Quote:
But, it really puts a damper on the social interaction. All too often chat goes completely unnoticed by others.

-Look lower on the post. I address the way the planet wide chat system segregates the community by planet because of that very system.

That's fair. I would like to see server forums come up.

-Unless many from your server know of it, it does not reach the target you are looking for with promotion. I guess you could place a few on every planet, in rotating shifts across 24 hours and hit the gen channel to promote it.. but, think of all the time it would take for so little pay off in this regard. Hence a glaring problem I address above.

I agree with the OP. Chat disappearing during movies only contributes to the unsocial feeling of the game. Seriously, how do you design a UI and think putting chat in the upper left corner of the screen, make it disappear entirely, and think that's a good idea in a freaking MMORPG? I've never seen such a deserted chat window in my entire time playing MMORPGs as I have in this game. I can play for 30mins and see no one talk in chat, and there's over 100 people in a zone...

This goes beyond just where the chat window is. Odd its the only window you can move and where I want to put it I cant move those windows out of the way so why can I even move the chat window? This UI is sad and has none of the options I want as an MMOer. The AH window is a down right pain to use. Raid panels are a pain. No Target of target or dual targeting. No add ons yet? =-\ If your not gona fix the UI (stuff we have been bringing out for months and months in beta) then let the players fix it. I LOVE this game but everything that I hate about it is the UI.
Pain is a friend, lets you know your still alive. Man am I alive!
