Why side with the Empire?

The Republic and Empire are completely polarised to extremes in order to distinguish them from one another. If they werent people would whine because the Empire is saving newborn babies while Jedi burn kittens in fire.

Empire = Bad
Republic = Good

Star Wars is and always has been a load of BS polarisation for dramatic effect which BW are further propagating because thats what the genre has established.

for me a Jedi is the equivalent of the overly religious in real life, stuck up, high and mighty, extremely hypocritical and just plain.....dull I mean its a bloody video game, why would you choose the less fun(invariably the `nice` option) when the fun ie evil option is there with no consequences to the real world.

I can understand being a good person in real life even though it may lead to a duller life but why bother in a video game?

Why side with the Empire? Because not everyone plays as "themselves". For me the choice came down to which side offered the more interesting storylines. I figured it'd be interesting to see how the Imperial military and regular citizens deal with Sith rule, and I was right.

Also, the Jedi code stinks. Eunich pebble-throwers? No thanks.

the problem with good/evil distinction in bioware games has been that, in accordance with north american culture's inclinations, good and evil in bioware games distribute as below :

- if you are being polite, caring for others, you are good
- if you are being an ******e, pointlessly murderous, irrationably jerk, you are evil.

.................

so with that logic, keeping some npc that would help enslave more planets into slavery becomes 'good' in choices and gives light points, killing it pointlessly, depraving the empire from enslaving more people becomes 'evil'.

see the problem ?

and in retrospect - exposing a senator which would ally with empire or legalize slavery in republic becomes evil, and allowing the plan to proceed becomes good.

........................

definitions of good/evil are twisted in north american culture's cultural leanings due to the need to justify the self-interest system the economic systems of this region perpetuates.

so, instead of self-interest and selfishness being the very definition of evil, and the degree of evil being determined in how many people you exploit/enslave/harm for your BENEFIT (not random acts of ******ery or violence), 'being impolite' or vile as an animal becomes evil.

and instead of helping people without expecting anything in return, trying to liberate, free and realize people being defined as good and everything revolving around that, 'being polite' and 'chipping in' becomes defined as good.

The first line of the Jedi code is the biggest falsehood you'll ever hear. There certainly is emotion. Life is about dealing with that emotion not hiding your head in the sand and denying it exists.

Even worse, that same hypocrisy echoes in their Senate. The Empire may be harsh, it may be brutal, but it's a tad more, in my opinion, honest with itself about how things work.

for example, just now, letting a scientist live on condition that he would give me a stronger weapon to kill 'lots of jedi' against my master's orders to kill him, had just given me 100 light side points.

imagine - you are acquiring a weapon for your OWN benefit AGAINST your master's orders to kill lots of jedi, and its being a 'light side' act.

despite you have betrayed your master and furthered your own interest, despite you are going to do more dastardly acts with that weapon, despite everything, it is 'light side' choice.

such choices are utterly misplaced.

i have had a hard time deciding myself which side to do first, as a personality i tend to side with the good guys most of the time but finally decided to go with empire first mainly because i wanted to experience the BH story and RP it as a BH with morals but will never turn down a job and never except any bribes. So far this has lead to some interesting Light/Dark gains

This thread is pretty hilarious. Countless posts claiming that the Empire isn't evil. I just happen to run in to a quest where it's revealed that the Empire is currently engineering a genocide. Evil? Pfffft. Don't be ridiculous. Genocide is just pragmatism at work bro.

If you want to be evil, that's cool. If you want to be a good guy in an evil organization, that's cool too. But don't delude yourself. As a whole, the empire is a vicious, destructive, amoral, unscrupulous force that will stop at nothing to get what it wants. It has no moral compunctions about anything. It kills when its useful, and it kills when it's just fun. The empire is the very definition of evil.

'evil side is not actually evil' is how decent people persuade themselves to play evil factions in games. it comes in all kinds of ridiculous forms.

once soe attempted to do that, after seeing that few were playing empire. they had put up various posters, quests basically saying 'empire is not evil, its just order'..... it lasted until the lashback from star wars fans and possibly lucas.

the very episode iv starts with words 'EVIL EMPIRE' ffs.
