Yes, you can buy CM items and sell on GTN after bound timer is off, but many casuals don't know that or don't want to bother, but would gladly buy 5 million credits for $15.

They may well have the same staff that is making new content also fixing older content, and that is a mistake. You need teams of people for different stuff and quality control/bug fixes should be a dedicated full time staff for a game of this size.

But it is possible they no longer have the budget for that, which is a shame, because the game makes money, so it can afford it. Poor quality drives people away, good quality brings people in.
This is a potentially game-breaking exploit. This isn't just a bit of gear that'll be obsolete in a few months like Nefra and Ravagers. This is pure economic TNT. Millions within 5-6 minutes or so I'm told. Millions within a few minutes and this exploit was known and used for weeks. That's untold billions of credits in the system that needs to be removed. I'm pretty amazed that this was allowed to go on for so long. And depressed.

You do realize its possible to make a whole new account, DUPE, hack, cheat than send the goods thru the gtn to your character... I mean lets face it, Eastern credit farmers do that crap all the time.

You will see 1 stim in the gtn for 12 mil ... I would like to see bioware start doing something about the botters... Maybe start banning the accounts

Yes, and banning the numerous people who did this exploit will remove a large majority of whatever player base they have left.

Oh, I agree with you... Even without a dedicated staff, this is the sort of thing that should be a "drop everything and put the lead dev on it right this min". Do not stop, do not pass go, do not go home until it is fixed. Take the servers down if you have to and work all night.

Simply disable the vendors that were used if need be until fixed, but this shouldn't have lasted a day, much less 6 weeks.

Ahh so this explains why the gold spam prices dropped like 300% over the past few weeks.

We had been talking about this in another topic ( that got deleted, not just locked with no wanring etc. confirming there was an exploit imo ) as well as people noting it in chat etc.

Judging my how much their pricing dropped their must have been just been so much money generated into the game
I don't see this game recovering from this in a hurry.

There is just no way Bioware are going to be able to track and ban all the people who committed this offense down to all the ways they can hide and launder the credits. No doubt they would happily create other accounts and even wear a 1 month sub fee to cheat as much as possible and then start funnelling the cheated credits into other accounts via the GTN, face to face, mail etc. and how many tiers/other accounts they could put this through ... these credits aren't going to be removed from the economy in a hurry if at all.

This is yet another reason that supports my decision to unsub from this game ... reading other sources on the net this exploit was known for far too long and should have been hot fixed as soon as it was found which tells me BW just have no idea what they're doing any more or the severity an exploit like this is going to cause to their in game economy.

Now that it's patched sit back and watch over coming weeks as people quickly go about buying up every expensive item they can as people go about securing their ill gotten gains ( which couldn't be proven if they were just "selling" things on the GTN to some random user with no IP match to them ).
Prices are going to sky rocket more than they already have ( all CM packs are a good current example ) and those who are earning their income through the regular means of the economy are going to finds things completely unaffordable.

Now why did they really hide it? To stop people doing it ( they weren't stop people speaking about it on the net or in guilds etc., the knowledge spreads like wildfire ) or to stop the outrage that comes from "Why aren't you fixing this now?! Why are you acting so inept?!". I know which answer I believe.

Honestly this time taken to remedy this on top of everything else lately is just inexcusable ... when subs fall off I really hope that heads roll and new management and designers are put in place rather than the game be given less priority ( read maintenance mode ) by EA. BEA needs a shake up or this game is doomed and this goes a long way to proving it.

I was incredibly surprised to log on the day after the exploit hit the forums (youtube vid) and not see any minor patch/servers still online. Only the threads had been removed and I was like... seriously lol

and the game would still be better off without them.

No game needs cheaters or exploiters. Hell, I'd rather see the game shut down than allow cheaters to think they can get away with it.

I'm of the same opinion personally, one of my favourite things to do in this game was to get a massive fortune. Like it or hate it I worked hard for it and it's what interested me ... to be considered "game rich" and these sort of things really undoes a lot of that work if the definition of what is rich is suddenly moved due to cheaters.

Also a side effect of the game getting shut down is the people who let this go on unpatched for so long would be unemployed and any sane development house wouldn't look twice at employing them if they managed to stuff a cash cow like "star wars" up this badly.
