You must be playing a different game then, because the only difference in quest structure is that there is a chain of story quests in each planet (zone), available only to your class alone.

It starts feeling like a grind tattoonie (24+) when the other non-storyline quests get very repetitive and samey.

MMOs need subs to survive.

This game is going to have to turn the corner until the next expansion from story-based to endgame-based. Does it look ready to do that?
I played City of Heroes for 3 years (Sept '06 - Aug '08). A couple of months after starting I founded an SG (Guild). Over that next weekend I managed to recruit a dozen or so other people to my guild. A week or so later I recruited Neo.

After burning out on WoW in August (where I had been since leaving CoH 3 years earlier) I logged back into CoH again. (I would play CoH for an evening or so ever 6-8 months, so it wasn't like I was never around).

Neo is now the GL. Most of those people who I recruited that first weekend are still there. My Guild went on without me just fine.

What were you saying about a game must have a strong raiding end game or awsome PvP to retain players?

Yeah, but the thing is, city of heroes etc was a pretty budget title, Tor couldn't survive with the same tiny community. Also, this is wow in space, its obviously made to cater to wow players, considering everything, everything, is the same, except for some class based missions/quests in each zone which everyone is hyping up like crazy, so you would want decent pvp/raid content to satisfy the target demographic.

Agree with the OP, other MMOS are so boring, leveling up a character in WoW is HELL.

Everything you need to enjoy endgame is there, plus you have a bunch of single player missions. It's WoW and more.
Except for the part about combat mechanics.

I love Bioware, I really do, but they really dropped the ball on that.

Nothing you do leveling really changes the endgame. You're companion hates you? Give him a gift. Your Darkside? Do Diplomacy.

You are also mistaken. Your choices wont bring you closure, or a different ending. In a Bioware RPG, yeah, a choice can make a difference in the ending.

Story in STOR is inconsequential. Nothing actually has any effect.
In STOR, kill X pirates gets quite boring. Then the dialog says i'm thinning/reducing their numbers. Really? If i go back and look, the exact same pirates are there. The exact same boss i killed is there. They aint foolin me!

Wow Phasing. - Should be standard tech on all new MMO's. I feel all MMO's should have phasing. It's just too important not to have anymore.

Nope. However, I think the cut scenes and voice acting make the "questing" the most immersive experience I have ever seen in any MMO -- and I have played many of them.

In most MMO's the "Real" game does not start until you reach the highest level and begin running the "so-called end-game content". Take the king of MMOS, WoW, as an example. The road from 1-85 is an excruciating one where nothing you do will have any impact on your toon at level 85. It is called a "grind" for a reason. WoW is not the only culprit here. Most MMOs follow this same broken paradigm.
Don't fool yourself. All MMOs have a story that begins at level 1. Whether you choose to personally acknowledge it and allow yourself to enjoy the journey or not is another issue entirely. Not all of us need to have the quest dialogue read to us to enjoy a story.

Leveling a toon in WoW is boring for me NOW, but it was awesome in 2005 when i first played the game.
