So it looks like an game issue and there is nothing wrong with the XPS or Alienware Notebooks!
Could you be so kind as to explain this to the rest of us who have no idea what you're talking about? :<

Sure no problem

If you log in to your system with an active directory (domain) user account and you can connect with the domain server directly you won't have any problems with FPS drops.
But if your not connected to the domain server, at home for instance you will experience FPS drops/ freezes because your not connected to the domain server but you logged into a roaming account.

If your in this situation you need to create a local user account on your notebook and play the game on that account, so don't log into your domain account.
I haven't tried the VPN option yet but will test it after work and diner

Hi

So do you have to create a second account on Windows 7? and then install SW and play from there?

If your in the same situation as me and have to log into a domain at work then yes you have to create a new local account in windows 7. But you don't have to re-install the game.

Could you explain it in a way that we could understand please? xD

I don't know what a domain server or any of that stuff is. I login as an administrator on my home computer and I have FPS issues. :<

Well it looks like your account isn't a member of any computer network so this fix won't apply to you.
Just to be sure, please describe your computer and network environment in detail if you can please.

My laptop is my work machine, and when I am "roaming" off the Active Directory domain, this problem happens. When I tested the game on a local admin profile I made just for testing this, everything seems to work just fine. As far as I can tell, there is something somewhere throwing it off by my local user login being domain related, and off said domain.

ok, what an incredible waste of time. I got stuck in the mess of people complaining about low fps and tried all their stuff. I knew that the machine was freezing and that fps and latency were perfectly fine....that my problem was caused by something other than my machine....I knew it had to be game based but I could nto find anyone with exactly the same issue. As a network engineer I tend to solve work problems differently than I solve my own problems, this was no different. It wasn't until the third day that I remembered things that two different people said to me...one was a guy who said my problem was connection based, the other was a post about how he had the problem in one location but not another.

I even replaced my video card in the process......

at my house everyone has a computer, both kids and my wife. I have a domain controller running on a virtual machine in my garage on a Dell PE2650....since it makes so much noise I usually don't turn it on, user info is cached on each workstation so as long as no changes are made, or someone doesn't try to use someone else's computer, everything is fine.

so, I thought maybe it was my isp and brought my computer from home to work (where we also have an AD structure but different domain than I have at home.) SWTOR was perfect, no freezing at all. Ok, at this point I was sure it was something to do with the environment at home.

I connected my cable modem to a different firewall device to make sure that I took everything out that could have been causing the issue. cable to cable modem, cable modem to router, router to my computer....still freezing, I was like, ***?

Oh, and BTW, this freezing was happening every 50 seconds, on the dot. and for the exact same amount of time.

I went to bed last night ready to get really upset becuase I knew there was no way I was going to be able to talk to a real tech working at the NOC of the cable company and instead would be subjected to a series of "have you rebooted your modem?, or have you rebooted your computer", do this, do that....ok, I did all that, what now?

I calmly sat down and tried a few more google queries and ran in to this thread...

What I don't understand is why the freezing went away when I was at work using my at-home domain account on the computer, it isn't like it could suddenly see the DC. If anything it would see a DC from another AD.

Now I have to see if I can get my wife to power up my server and start the VM.

fingers crossed.
