Is it just me, or do these kind of comments sound petty and jealous of those who get complimented on their gameplay?

I just want to know, did all the "great" players of the past get a secret memo instructing them all to leave the game by a certain date, never to return?

This is just what people who are too self absorbed say in order to downplay others to make themselves feel good.

The great thing about this statement, is that it implies that there is regression over time. That the more people play a class, the more stationary and stagnant people will be with said class. It implies that putting hundreds of hours into getting better at a class will never amount to an arbitrary skill level that those previous to them had. I find this funny and entertaining

For example, when the current tier of "top players" leave the game, if the game is still alive, and i'm sure it will be, there will be a new tier of "top players" And the current players at that point in the future will say to those current "top players" that "you're not as good as xyz who came before you", implying that skill remains stagnant and that people aren't human, and thus cannot learn and make progression towards a new level of skill.

The truth is, it doesn't matter if the "great pvpers" left the game because they will be replaced with more pvpers who will be great during their era. It's kind of like sports. Joe Montana was arguably one of the greats as far as NFL quarterbacks go. To say that Tom Brady will never be as great as Joe Montana is a convoluted statement, because Joe Montana's era of football was different compared to the current era of football. The statement also implies that Tom Brady could never be as good as Joe Montana, as though there is some imaginary plateau that exists and once it's hit, all people who come after you will only ever be able to achieve one layer below that plateau due to imaginary constraints.

I wasn't trolling, you obviously didn't read the first page of this thread, which shows a quote of someone ELSE minimalising what great players do now, by saying that "all the great pvpers left the game" and no one on the game is great now. Like someone above said, salty people being salty.

For the most part, what Krea said. However, there is a similar saying that sadly holds some truth in swtor.

Most of the good competitive players with decent irl's have either left the game or just play casually.

Without matchmaking premading is very boring. A lot of people I premaded with left the game due to the easy wins. I left for a bit and since I came back I have just played regs casually and some yolo.

It is really sad how many people only premade in this game. They know they will usually face a pug and they actually want this. Very sad.

Frequent pugstomping is not fun for competitive people with decent irls.

Yolo isn't competitive for obvious reasons.

So basically, no competitive person with a decent irl can take this game's pvp too seriously. So if you see someone who premades all the time or who really believes yolo rating means something then they are not very good pvp'rs and/or are sad irl.

However, there are still a lot of very good players who play the game casually (regs/yolo) but understand that their high rating doesn't mean very much (I know my gold chars mean nothing). So there are still a lot of good players but just not in the same way as there would be in an environment that supported competitive gameplay.

I think his point is that the game is losing most of it's big names. Which is something to be concerned about since big names have big influence.

For instance you Keria have considerable reputation within the assassin community. If you rage quit you'll probably indirectly pull others out with you. Yes you will probably be succeeded by others, but it still means the game has lost something.
Plus some players bring things (be it a methodology or way of approaching issues) to the discussion that other players simply don't and might not never.

That said I really wish Lancelot would learn how to pose a question without sensationalizing it to the extreme.

However, the thing is, there are resources out there still to this day from some of the previous players that are available to the current iteration of players who can then expand upon those ideas and push forward with their own innovative take on things.

Perfect example of this is Xinika. While she has to my knowledge quit playing the game, there is still information that she has left behind in her wake. Using her guide, no matter how outdated, new players can comb through it still in order to get a general idea of how certain specs should be played. From there, they can build on it and throw in what they've found to be more effective in their own personal experience.

Let's say little Billy read Xinika's guide today, despite never knowing who she was or talking with her. Now let's say that little Billy applies what he learned from her guide and mixes it with his own gameplay. Eventually, little Billy will surpass Xinika in skill, since he continued to practice based upon her findings and his own, and then a new 'era of greats' begins, where the old is replaced with the new and so on and so forth.

The thing is, even in that era, despite little Billy learning from some great players before him, he will still have salty players telling him "You'll never be as great as Xinika or those sins who came before you." In what scenario is talk such as this ever conducive to community building? Which leads me to my final point; salty people will forever stay salty. Some people would simply rather drag others down and disregard their efforts to help the masses because they feel it raises their own personal image by downplaying others.

If that's what it takes for a player to get their daily dose of self-esteem, then who am I to stop them?

Competitive pvp died with the removal 8v8 ranked. That was literally the WORST decision BW ever made for pvp and when snave tore Eric up on a community stream interview it was the best thing ever. Season 1 group ranked had a bit of a spark but pvp has been pretty much coasting since then.
