If they are annihilation / watch they could be trying to DOT spread. In which case I personally don't actually mind as long as they switch after they've done that. Tanks need to learn that any DOT class that spreads their DOTs off stronger enemies (since weaker enemies will usually die during the set up) is actually doing their job well.

of course not all marauders / sents are DOT spec, and those that are probably dont all focus on DOT Spreading on adds.

I've just tanked through two flashpoints where I was trying to explain to these guys why it's important to let the tank pull and to take out the weak first. Is it something about the class itself that attracts people who refuse to listen to reason? There needs to be a "Group Content 101" tutorial explaining basics like this.
I'll say this as someone who doesn't care for the Sent/Mara class, and who can and does wait...

Because the tank is to damn slow. You have melee classes with lunges and range classes with, well, range attacks. Gotta hurry up and move, get in there quick so they can dps them down.

It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so *********** what." - Stephen Fry

In this thread:

Bad Sentinels/Marauders are bad.
Slow tanks are slow.
Good players tend to play good.
Healers are awesome (not expressly mentioned, but implied).

I assume that we tend to ascribe poor/impatient DPS play to Sents/Maras because theirs is the most visually obvious misstep: hard to ignore that swashbuckling Force Leap. Thus, their actions register more readily than, say, a Smuggler's premature release of blaster fire (they say it happens to 2 out of 5 Smugglers).

However, we should not ignore the most salient and critical point to take away from this discussion: Healers are awesome.

I imagine a bunch of people do it in protest at how no one listens to mara/sentinel players, doing something noticeable makes more people notice you, this in turn hopefully goes up to the devs and they think "hmm why are maras doing that?" That is the theory, hasn't worked yet.

I'm not sure which way this is funnier. as dry sarcasm (as I assume it is) or as that there are people who genuinely believe this.

I love my Mara and I know how frustrating it is to watch all your built up fury and rage and procs vanish unused because the tank moves slowly. But

1) I learned to wait and accept that flashpoint trash is for ranged classes. No point in trying to be particularly good or effective on trash. After the first jump combat slows down movement and getting from one point to the next is the time it takes the ranged class to take out the mobs. When I arrive and I can get a slash in, all right; if I don't, I wasn't needed, anyway and move on.

2) I wait on slow tanks because there's always the possibility that they're learning or the tank is not their main role/character. Giving them a bad experience by giving them attitude or being impatient is more likely to scare them off and since I love playing my dps chars I can't afford scaring off people willing to take on tanking.

tank well, no, but given a boss with no real swap mechanics if only job is to hold threat and not die, it is. IF tank dies, its not hard for a sent to step in and keep the boss from running willly nilly. I don't normally care if i'm fighting mobs that a gold or silver latches on to me for a few minutes as I can usually kill them before they kill me. If that is the definition of tank yes. if not, then I guess it depends on what you call tank?

can they main tank, no. cant they hold aggro on most mobs and keep others from pulling a boss. yes.
ya'll know what this is (hint yes its a referral link)

Two good points. When I DPS, I DPS from range and, yes, can usually defeat the outlying trash before the melee DPS can reach them. It is, in fact, a point of annoyance for me when the Sent/Mara wastes the time to trudge over to some trash mobs when I have them in my sights.

There's some axiom about "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" (which is untrue ... the last man gets to keep his one good eye) ... anyway. "Punishing" a slow tank by jumping the gun (see what I did there? "jumping" the gun!) is no different than the healer punishing the jump-happy Sentinel by denying him healing. Which is no different than the tank punishing the bad healer by not peeling adds off the healer. The circle of punishment must end! And I hereby end it by declaring: Wombat! (that's the safe word I usually use to stop punishment ... not sure if it will work in this context).

Like I said, I wait, but I can see why others go running in. Most people don't care for a slow tank, that includes the healer.
