No doubt...it's like this is the first time the event has been run...

You know clinically it is called sadistic when you enjoy causing someone duress/pain/suffering over something. Some people think it is a matter of degree, but it isn't.

There is a small cadre of MMO players whose control freakery and lack of self-confidence is of such epic proportions that they simply cannot deal with even a modicum of control being taken from them as regards a computer game character. These are the same people who complain about too many stuns, forced emoting, etc. "It's my character! You have no right to do things to my character!"

And it is quite fun to see them go ballistic every rakghoul event (and for some, even the Life Day event, since some of them are so bad they can't even deal with a pixel snowball being thrown at their character).
You should dial back your overgeneralizations. I dislike this event. I just don't spend time complaining about it when the means to nullify what I dislike about it is readily at hand. And I'm one of those players who prefers to not allow other players to decide how my character acts. Again, I don't complain about such events. I take the precautions provided to insulate myself from those events (e.g., vaccine for Rakghoul Plague and disabling LOTRO forced emotes). If you want to criticize those who overreact to such events, fine. Just don't presume that everyone who doesn't enjoy Rakghoul Party Pier IV is some humorless, serious-stick-in-the-rear-having whiner.

Personally... I HATE this particular event. But it's not that big a deal....really... I've got plenty of the vaccine in my legacy storage. Whenever I make an alt, I stop by my stronghold to equip them with med packs, stims, and the vaccines for rakgoul & womp rat.

Any event that causes you to lose control of your character even for a limited time is bad game design, having to actually pay to opt-out of it is even worse. That being said, the event isn't really that big of a deal unless you're the type that likes to stand around the orbital so everyone can see your shiny armor and cool kid mount.

If someone is "suffering" because of this, that's absolutely pathetic.

And what's with nerds always thinking they are psychologists?

If you kill like, 2 enemies in the 6 hours the vaccine lasts for the cost is inconsequential.
