Multi-player games sometimes have other players in them. Those who dislike this event have a serious stick up their rear and no sense of humor. It's just a game. No one is coming to your house and sneezing on you (although I'm sure some people are into that, so maybe they are).

There is a small cadre of MMO players whose control freakery and lack of self-confidence is of such epic proportions that they simply cannot deal with even a modicum of control being taken from them as regards a computer game character. These are the same people who complain about too many stuns, forced emoting, etc. "It's my character! You have no right to do things to my character!"

And it is quite fun to see them go ballistic every rakghoul event (and for some, even the Life Day event, since some of them are so bad they can't even deal with a pixel snowball being thrown at their character).

I heard that virus is back and spreading like wildfire on the orbital stations but I'm too busy leveling my grunt on Ord to care.

This has been a long term problem that's easy to solve so shut-up, please.

Step 1 - Don't go to the fleet

Step 2 - ???

Step 3 - Profit?

I am, unapologetically, one of those griefers. I load up on vaccine and stalk the halls of Fleet in search of infected just so I can stand near them when they explode. The sad expressions on their faces when I remain uninfected feed my glory. I've made my own mini-game within the mini-game during Rakghoul Fever Weekend.

For me, this approach to such events started in LOTRO, in which there are periodic festival events, during which players complete daily caps and overall deeds (i.e., achievements) for inflicting "forced emotes" on unsuspecting characters in their vicinity. It's often innocuous things like making the other guy sneeze or faint, and has no enduring effects. But a while ago, the makers of LOTRO added a feature that allows players to disable "forced emotes". I started frequenting the festival areas where folks working on the deeds tended to flock, just to allow them to shower me with forced emotes ... to no effect. I did not sneeze. I did not faint. They did not advance their quests or deeds. All they got was a big "Immune" message over my head. I chuckled deep and heartily at their distress.

Rakghoul Bikini Beach: The Musical is the closest SWTOR parallel to LOTRO festivals. I plan to spend my long weekend doing nothing other than disappointing players with infected characters on fleet. And eat BBQ. I will disappoint players with infected characters and eat BBQ. Oh, and maybe watch the fireworks Saturday night. So ... it's disappoint players with infected characters, eat BBQ, and watch fireworks. I'm reminded that the Women's World Cup final is Sunday ... and I plan to watch that. So, I will spend my long weekend doing nothing but disappointing players with infected characters, eating BBQ, watching fireworks, and rooting for the USWNT to beat Japan on Sunday.

Spoiler

TLDR: It's a slow pre-long-weekend Thursday for me.

I really only have 2 problems with the event. The forced character death, and the annoying 2 second stun every 20 seconds or so. The life day stuff is harmless as it does not affect your ability to do anything, this one actually has detrimental effects to the character.

Yea yea, buy the plague innoc at the vendor, but why should a player have to pay to opt out or do silly stupid quest lines that cause it? It should be free (or 1 credit).

To the OP (and anyone else that whines):

1) Are you too poor to afford a couple of doses of the vaccine for 2k each?
2) If you are, then why are you on fleet and not out getting some cash for your character?
3) the "that's like hiring a bodyguard to prevent being robbed" excuse doesn't work... unless you can get bodyguards for like 2 bucks... because 2k in this game is pittence... I have five times that when leaving the starter planets in most cases.
4) "I shouldn't have to buy the vaccine", well, I shouldn't have to look at your dumb name or stupid character in the game, but we all have to live with stuff we don't like.

Those are pretty insulting statements to some people there. One person may see something as "criticism", another may see it as "complaining, because I don't like what's being said".

You're saying that someone who doesn't like a particular part of a game has no sense of humor and a "serious stick up their rear"?

And you go on to say that people who criticise about stuns and force emoting are "control freaks and lack self confidence". You are incredibly defensive about this game aren't you? Just because a few people don't like certain aspects of it, doesn't mean you can insult them.

And your last sentence was incredibly sadistic. You enjoy it when other people go "ballistic"? I wouldn't be surprised if you were the one to make them act like that, looking at your posting history all you seem to do is poke and poke other forum members.

All you're doing is stirring up trouble and insulting people.

The pot calling the kettle black.

But in other news, I've always worked it into my own little story I have going on in my head about my character, right now I'm leveling a trooper on Ord and since plague and disease is a part of warfare I've added that angle to his own little internal story. He'll skip the orbital and high pop locations until the plague is cleared and focus on killing dirty sep dogs, traitors to the Republic and doing other grunt things in the wilds.
