SWGFAIL is my new term for anything that fails when using a SWG reference. It is Fail on a level higher than Epicfail. It is not used in regard to the new expansion.

Okay, so here are the steps I just took to alleviate myself from the lack of communication from the devs.

Step1: go to a Mexican Restaurant
Step 2: order a chimichanga and a beer
Step 3: who cares you have a chimichanga and a beer!
I'll tell you what, then. Why don't you call me some time when you have no class?

The only point I was attempting to make is - let him ask.

Holocron did nothing wrong by asking for better communication and he's only one of hundreds who have asked for it...horrible communication is a trademark of Bioware's. I don't think it was right for people to gang up on him like they did. Basically...if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all (I don't mean you).

Well it's the manner in which it was asked, the whole SWG thing could have been left out and no one would have cared. But, it's troll bait, and effective troll bait

Bug fixes, ptach notes, and exploit updates are great and all, but really are just a shadow of the information exchange that we need.

Here is an example that you should really model yourselves after communication wise, and you might really be surprised how quickly we could build a stronger relationship together.

SWG Community from the aspect of the developers:

"We had been so open and honest and communicative with the playerbase on the forums that when we asked for the playerbase’s goodwill, we actually got it. (Our community management actually became a case study for how to build collaborative environments with fans that was written about in Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide. I am very proud of what we accomplished there). People were upset, but there was a sense that we were all in it together. Our day one sales of the game were a one-to-one exact match for the registered forum population."

The Truth Behind SWG

We used to have weekly Q&A sessions, where questions that had much to do about nothing were answered. We've had road maps that were delayed, changed or pushed aside because of changes along the development path. And yes, people really do freak out over major announcements. I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware considers a lot of the forum visitors to be bi-polar at times and are afraid to interact with us.

Each game has its own community that is created based on the quality of the game and the loyalty and feelings of the players that consume that game. SWG had a smaller, loyal fan base that were more approachable in some ways.

On these forums it is a different story, we have people that are loyal to the IP and product, we have people that are loyal to certain types of game play and we have people that are bored and have nothing better to do. It's hard to interact and please everyone at the same time.

If you feel that the communication between the devs and the community needs to be improved. Provide feedback to the team, offer ideas, offer your time. But remember that times have changed and each community is a unique beast that isn't always easy to tame.

I have no problem with him, or anyone else, asking for more communication. God knows that we need it around here - and not the kind where some offhand comments are made at some bar somewhere in the US that a large portion of the playerbase can't attend or otherwise witness firsthand.

However, comparing the communication that we need to a game that failed miserably from a dev team that was less then stellar on all fronts (including communication) is just asinine. It would be better to not even make such a reference and simply explain what a good system of communication should be for this game.
