Bug fixes, ptach notes, and exploit updates are great and all, but really are just a shadow of the information exchange that we need.

Here is an example that you should really model yourselves after communication wise, and you might really be surprised how quickly we could build a stronger relationship together.

SWG Community from the aspect of the developers:

"We had been so open and honest and communicative with the playerbase on the forums that when we asked for the playerbase’s goodwill, we actually got it. (Our community management actually became a case study for how to build collaborative environments with fans that was written about in Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide. I am very proud of what we accomplished there). People were upset, but there was a sense that we were all in it together. Our day one sales of the game were a one-to-one exact match for the registered forum population."

they dont need to answer to you or anyone else on these forums, besides i think their lack of communication is mostly based in part on it being a strategic move in order to draw up interest which it has done for a few weeks now since the announcement. i dont see what needs to be discussed beyond that.

Except that... for years developers developed games in a vacuum and they did just fine. Remember those days? When games were purchased on CD-ROM? Or (gasp) floppy disk? Gamers had exactly zero input on those games, and while there were plenty that were failures, there were loads of successes.

Modern gamers have an overinflated sense of expertise in the market. They might have opinions, but those opinions don't translate easily into good ideas.

No.

You know what you enjoy. You don't know what we enjoy. The problem is that what you enjoy may be distinctly different from what I enjoy, and even when the two of us agree, there may be a hundred other people who never even come to these forums who disagree.

See, that's the problem. You feel like you speak for everyone, or rather, you feel that your opinions are universal enough that they have weight. However, you lack the perspective to actually verify that. A developer that actually listens to their customers needs to filter out the raging horde of shouts for all manners of contradictory things and try to find a set of things that will please the most people.

And that's going to upset some people.

And with this forum, that usually translates into people insisting that Bioware never listens to anyone... because Bioware didn't listen to them ... in that one thing they wanted. If Bioware's lucky, they just get insulted for a few weeks. Sometimes they get death threats. Sometimes, they get people trolling their forum for months. Sometimes they get people who have to (repeatedly) announce that they're not going to sub anymore because those selfish developers didn't implement [super important feature that matters to 0.01% of the players].

But they'll never be able to make everyone happy. And more often than not, they're going to work to make the silent majority happy, rather than the vocal minority who post here.

However, IIRC sure that current map goes by: Kofte 1st 12 chapters upon launch, then more in 2016, togruta and yavin SH got next 6 months map covered, and, mayb, who knows, god forbid, some surprise content that'll lead us to the all-mighty carbonite freeze of doom.
 • Mid term road map. Kofte's hype has us covered in hype, and otherwise, till october
 • Information, or the lack there of, on a multitude of continually requested in game features/changes. And what do you expect? " nope, you'z not getting it " at most times, maybe it ends on the wall of crazy. whatever they have planned it will be implemented. whether we get something asked or not, just gotta wait and see
 • More interactive discussions with players about intentional class/game changes/redesigns and class balances. Mara/sent gate made sure we ain't getting any of that for a bit. Despite being not most folks, but just a minor bunch of idiots doing * that *
 • Engine ability/update in relation to player concerns covered and covered. Too messy.
 • Monthly/weekly/daily community interaction on hot button issues, or good will Got Kofte trailer thrown at us 2 weeks ago, don't expect a weekly or daily feed, again, they could, but yeah, again, mara/sent gate definetly didn't put in their interests to talk about hot buttons.
 • Illicit feedback for certain game direction content I'll be honest and say I didn't quite catch the meaning of this
 • Discuss upcoming changes with players on a larger time table Help yourself, unfortunately, to the sent/mara gate point that's written here and there in the answers
 • etc. just to name a few. I'm sure more people could add plenty more.

I know some of this stuff will come to fruition (I hope) as we get closer to KOTFE, but overall it just seems like dev/player communication needs a big kick in the butt. I'm sure most of us here wouldn't be mad over getting more information and interaction, more often.
Definetly would be willing to talk about features, or, heck, even just watch conversations about others.

Now however, because of a few imbecilles that as usual get faaaar to detatched from reality, they had to go and pester devs, and the ones close to them. Rightfully, may I say, they've clammed up again. I personally didn't write anything regarding the mara/sent changes, but, yeah, I'm also getting the consequences of it. TLR, if the devs have clammed up again, blame those fellas, not them

Allow me! in green, cuz red = hostile and yellow = devs color

Coloring fail in the quoting. Good luck whoever attempts to read that.

I didn't put anything in your mouth...and I got the idea from your opening statement:

I did as well, and find it puzzling because one of the biggest issues (as indicated in another thread) was the lack of communication around the NGE, so .... yeah SWGFAIL again.

You want a good example of such communication - reference Trion and Defiance. At least there the dev team have learned from past mistakes and has improved much in terms of open and honest communication, and proper testing procedures.

After all, both games are in the same industry and both are Science Fiction.
