It's meant to request better and more communication from Bioware.

There was so much honest and open communication between SWG and its players.

Like making sure to sell as much Trials of Obi Wan as they could before launching the NGE.

oh wait...

Major issues are never up for player discussion in any game I know of. You link to SWG things of the past, yet it has nothing to do with your own subject. You can say, they should model after it, but in truth and reality, SWG never had it, ever. Never.

Not sure if you had actually played SWG or not, but people keep looking back with either hate or rose tinted glasses. Saying NGE ruined the game, or this and that was better. The simple fact is, the game closed due to being a massive flop over the years. It had it's high points, but it had its lows as well.

Back to the main subject though, we, as the players, can give input and that is about it. But we have no right, nor ever will, to know more then what is needed. Our opinions do matter, since without customers a company doesn't fair well. But we aren't in control and can't demand to know more then what is needed.

  • Long term vision for the game.
  • Mid term road map.
  • Information, or the lack there of, on a multitude of continually requested in game features/changes.
  • More interactive discussions with players about intentional class/game changes/redesigns and class balances.
  • Engine ability/update in relation to player concerns
  • Monthly/weekly/daily community interaction on hot button issues, or good will
  • Illicit feedback for certain game direction content
  • Discuss upcoming changes with players on a larger time table
  • etc. just to name a few. I'm sure more people could add plenty more.

I know some of this stuff will come to fruition (I hope) as we get closer to KOTFE, but overall it just seems like dev/player communication needs a big kick in the butt. I'm sure most of us here wouldn't be mad over getting more information and interaction, more often.

Great, then I'll never learn to read, good thing my mom is already dead, cause it would kill her.

and yes communication is a great thing, but obsession makes for a better perfume than communication style.
I'll tell you what, then. Why don't you call me some time when you have no class?

I have to disagree with this last part a little bit. It's true we aren't in control (directly) of the game, but when developers develop in a vacuum then most likely they are doomed to fail. We (as paying customers) have a vested interest in the game, and want it to succeed, because it is the object from which we derive enjoyment. We know intimately more than anyone else what we enjoy. So for a developer to not foster that feedback, and intentionally ignore the pleas to listen, then it just a matter of time.

So which fans do the devs listen to? The ones who want this or the ones who don't want this? Or, do they listen to the fans that want that, or the fans who don't want that? You see, it's not as easy as just saying they should listen to us. There is far more to it than that. Also, just because they don't post saying they have read something, doesn't mean they haven't read it.

From the many prosaic odes to SWG I've seen in these Forums, it's like SWG was our soulmate. Our perfect MMO partner. SWG gave us what we needed and never disappointed. Until that horrible day. Until NGE (for the record, I still have no clue what NGE is/was). After that, SWG changed. We stopped communicating. What once seemed effortless suddenly became toil. Then ... SWG was gone. SWG packed her (or his) bags and left us. Never to return. How many nights did we lie awake, picturing SWG and weeping at the truth: We were alone.

But then, we met SWTOR. For those who had played SWG, SWTOR seemed ... familiar ... similar. If they squinted their eyes just enough, they began to think SWTOR could be SWG. But they were always fooling themselves. Like your friend who only dates redheads because they remind him of a lost love. Slowly, the eye-squinting SWG lovers realized that SWTOR is not SWG. And they began to punish SWTOR for not being SWG. In passive-aggressive posts about how "SWTOR is fine, but SWG did it this way ...."

As I said, I never dated ... er ... played SWG. When I met SWTOR, it wasn't through the filter of having known SWG. I came to SWTOR without any expectations that SWTOR mirror SWG in any way. I judge SWTOR solely on the basis of what it is. Which has always been enough to ensure my devotion.

Spoiler

TLDR: I tune out any comments based on how this game differs from a game I never played.
LOL. That was a pretty good description of SWG for having never played it. If you gathered all that through the variety of posts talking about SWG, i'm truly impressed.

His post really wasn't about SWG the game, and more the approach taken at and before the launch of the game in regards to communication with the player base.
