Yeah, it was too good.

This game is the bare minimum for an MMO, very linear and very much single player oriented.
No denying that. That's the current market for MMOs.

Just stop with these Star Wars Galaxies threads and NGE comparisons. It's really getting old. It isn't healthy to keep on that game in your mind. Let it go.

Don't bother. They've become fixated and won't let it go until they have everyone on their side. I really wish there was some way that when I place someone on my ignore list here on the forums, that it would not let their posts show up anymore for me when I scan through gen forums. If someone knows a way, or if I missed something about that, please let me know. I hate it when doom and gloomers and SWG comparison people ruin my morning coffee at work.

Well Since ESO's devs specifically stated they did not make an MMO but rather an Elder Scrolls game with some multiplayer features I find it odd.

Second SWG was apparently so far ahead of its time that we still have yet to have a successful Persistent World Sand-box based MMO of that style. I get it that their are people who are very passionate about the game, but from a video game point of view that was a "cult phenomena." There is that small diehard fan base who adored it and then the rest of mainstream game culture. Cult phenomena do not make the $$$ these Companies expect so what happened to SWG happens.

This is the "curse" of valuable IPs. Only the "big" companies can get enough money to have the production values most gamers expect and afford the Licensing Rights of an IP with the value of a Star Wars. The thing is that only the "Kick Starter" indie guys can make and maintain a game like SWG was at launch in terms of content and style, because they do not require the ROI the "big" companies do to keep investors happy. Thing is Indie guys can't afford the Licensing Rights for an IP like Star Wars. SWG essentially proved "this kind of game doesn't make enough money to justify AAA production" and that is ALL SOE(now Daybreak Games), EA/BW, Activision/Blizzard, NCSoft, etc care about.... cost benefit analysis founded in an ROI.

It's mostly because launch SWG is the best AAA MMO there ever was ... for certain playstyles, including the RP, character customization and player-driven content groups. EVE online was better for crafters, but SWG was clearly ahead of the rest of the pack there as well - and EVE arguably was never AAA, certainly not before an influx of quitting SWG players. Each of these groups was gutted by the NGE and sent wandering in a post-WoW world where everyone was copying the same terrible (to these groups) formula.

Given the IP and BioWare's story focus, SWTOR attracted much of that community.
