Then again, marketing in any major business prides themselves on the ability to turn a phrase.
Almost every game out there that is marketed as F2P is actually freemium.
(and yet I haven't seen one yet that markets itself as one)

Just look at any game you want.
It'll most likely have a "premium" account feature (or going by some other name) which serves as the equivalent of being a subscriber here.
And it will most likely have little things that you can (and even have to) buy to make things easier, and if you don't buy those things, the grind will be a bit tougher.

SW:TOR has it pretty easy to be honest. Most of the stuff you pay for are either cosmetic or not needed to play the game for most people.
Stuff like matching colours or hiding your helmet are cosmetic and don't really matter to the core gameplay.
Things like the 5th and 6th quickbar can be done without, even though they make things easier, they aren't needed to play the game.
Increased access to WZ's and Ops are not really needed unless you're playing the game for those things only.
The lower XP gain rates are in line with most other F2P games (and to be honest, they are right in line with the rates the game had before going F2P, so F2P players are getting what subscribers had before... they're not getting punished, the subscribers are getting rewarded)

And by 'restrictions' I'm including all the games that have intrusive advertising because if you can't handle not being able to run around without your helmet showing, you wouldn't be able to handle ads in your face all the time either.
Neverwinter. Star Trek Online. There's two examples.
It's "elder game", guys. The day this game gets an actual "endgame" is when BW pulls the plug on the servers. MMORPGs don't have an "end".

Jesus this thread disgusts me. You people want examples of games with better F2P model than SWTOR? Alright, let me give you a list:

TERA
Rift
Neverwinter Online
Champinos Online
Star Trek Online

Do I need to go on? Alright.

Lotro
DDO
DCUO
Firefall

I could probably list more, but these are just the ones I can think of from the top of my head. You know why they are all better than SWTOR? It's because SWTORs f2p model is terrible. Limiting action bars, limiting the gear you can use, limiting the number of WZs and FPs you can do per week, limiting who knows what else.

"Oh but swtor lets you play the whole story for free. Except expansions of course" Guess what. All the other games listed let you do that as well (well, Lotro and DDO dont, I'll give you that, but their model is a bit different from the typical f2p). And none of them has such an abusive model as SWTOR.

Also I'm a subscriber but apparently one of the few who doesn't act like a condescending ***** towards others just because I shell money on the game on monthly basis.

I believe it is somewhat deceitful to call it free to play. The blatant cash grabbing and such is too much in my opinion. My bad experience with free to play has made me skeptical about the Devs' future decision making.
I'm sure you could find someone who could help you get over something that happened to you in a video game over a year ago...

Always find it funny when people pay 0 for something then complain about what they get.
Dear BW,
Please nerf paper and buff rock. Scissors is fine as is.
Signed, Rock.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has a couple and no one ever thinks theirs stinks.

F2P players contribute nothing to the game. Nothing. Preferred players have a bit more leeway to complain, but only a little.

If you want some solid ground upon which to complain, sub up and then complain. Because, right now, F2P complainers remind me of people who get gifts and then complain about the quality of the gifts. Either shut up and be grateful or find some other game to mooch off of and complain about.

You do realize this post is populated entirely by subbed players? As f2p players are unable to post on the forums?
If you do not have an active sub, you cannot post on these forums.

So the argument

Is a curious and obviously well reasoned one...

Fixed that for you.

But let's suppose all those games have an objectively superior F2P model than TOR. All that means is "Hey, you wan to play for free and continue to play for free? Don't play TOR." Which would be bad because ...?

None. We both know know a game has to have some inducement to get enough people to pay money or it will cease to exist. Neverwinter, for example, allows only 2 characters per server (or it did when I tried it out a year or so ago). Since most people want more than 2 characters, they know some people will buy Zen to buy more slots. I didn't quit playing Neverwinter because I found its "nickel and diming" obnoxious (I expected to be faced with various inducements to spend real money), I quit because I didn't like the game enough to keep playing.
