yup, I always laugh at how no matter how much information from SWG now been released that shows NGE actually had a positive effect on subscription numbers (not enough to save game but it did stop the constant lessing of subscriptions) they always just ignore all that and regurgitate the old tale about how NGE killed SWG.

Its always the same old scenario by them posting
In regards to lessening F2P and Preferred restrictions
In GAMING, as in LIFE,
You get what you pay for
No game restriction is so dire that $15.00/month will not eliminate it

What are you implying, that BWEA better have an open beta for KotFE or you will "withhold" your money from them?

Not at all. In fact, I am not implying anything at all. I am outright stating, that despite my disappointment in some of Trion's machinations with two of their games that I respect the fact that they decided that it was in the best interest of their game and the players to try to put out the best product possible by implementing a testing and vetting system that allows for the best opportunity for doing so. BioWare has not.

I just follow what is posted on dulfy.net for any info on the game. Usually best place to get info. Also why is it that every expansion the HAVE to tell you everything all at once? Why can't you just wait for them to tell you when its closer to launch?

You should really stop with the assumptions. "You know nothing, Jon Snow".

Sony planned to run SWG side-by-side with SWTOR. It wasn't until sometime around June/July 2011 that they were informed of LucasArts granting EA an exclusivity clause for Star Wars video games. LucasArts wouldn't/couldn't renew their (Sony's) license so they had to shut down.

I'm not saying that it was the best game ever or that it was better than this, but it was fiscally solvent and had a die hard fan-base.
Let this sink in, this game is Free to Play, boasts one of the most popular IPs on the planet and yet 76.47% of the servers are empty.

You were saying?

SOE is also currently working on a game similar to SWG: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014...galaxies-fans/

Are you seriously trying to say that the main (only?) reason SWG shut down was because Lucas yanked their licensing?

Talk about knowing nothing.

Frankly an open Beta is not going to help improve the game. First, most people that go into an open Beta do not actually Beta test all they are doing is going in to play the game and only notice the most superficial of bugs. Second, The main point of the update is a story expansion Having an open beta mean that there are going to be more leaks of it also Story quest are in no way going to need to be tuned the same way an Ops or FP would need to be. The vast majority of it would be testing dialogue trees and the most effective way to do that would be by using Dev tools so they can mess with all the different flags that the are track to see if something is wrong.

Well, let's see ... The NGE was in November 2005, yet the game continued on until December 2011. That's a full six years post-NGE. That game was NGE more than three times as long as it was anything else. In fact, it was NGE for 75% of its 8.5 year lifespan.

They were pushing content updates every six weeks from 2008 until the closure announcement. They said via announcements that it would continue to run after SWTOR, right up until July 2011, when they announced the closure.

It might not have been a leviathan, but the game was in the black between subs and the TCG. Businesses generally don't intentionally stop a money making product.

It "seems" to me that you never played the game, so you'll just have to forgive me for dismissing any opinion you might think up as to *why* the game was shut down.

-I started off by asking John about the reason behind the cancellation and whether or not it was a matter of LucasArts choosing not to renew the contract with SOE.

John Smedley: The decision to shut down SWG is first and foremost a business decision mutually agreed upon between SOE and LucasArts. LucasArts has a new game coming out, and the contract would be running out in 2012 anyway, so we feel like it's the right time for the game to end.

-Players will wonder whether the recent SOE hackings or SOE layoffs had anything to do with the decision.

John Smedley: The hackings had nothing to do with it, and the layoffs didn't affect the Star Wars team. We have been in talks with LucasArts for a while about this, and we've just been trying to figure out the exact timing for a while now. None of that stuff had anything to do with this.

-What about the player population? Some readers will choose to believe that the game is being canceled because it's "dying."

John Smedley: Populations have stayed pretty steady for a long time now. In fact, we recently merged a bunch of servers to help the prime-time population. But gosh, the game's been running for a long time now, and it's been a great run. We're glad to have done it.
