Knights of the fallen Empire = NGE ( diet version )?

I think the real question here is not whether or not this is some NGE or if they are trying to copy SWG. I think the real question people should be asking is why do you continually make posts here in this forums like you are a community ambassador. I ask myself that every time I read one of your posts. Every time I see one, I get more and more angry. Not because your post is stupid, or lame, or another failed attempt to try and compare this game to a game that has long since been dead. But because you continually do it like as if you speak for the whole community. "Is this what WE wanted?" "Is this what the COMMUNITY asked for?" "WE did not ask for this" "WE want this."

There is no universal answer that the community will give as a whole since the whole community is divided among the many different aspects of the game. Trying to group everyone together and saying that this is the voice of the community is outright wrong and you should be ashamed of yourself and remove the wannabe community ambassador thing from your signature, because let me tell you, 90% of the stuff you say is the communities request is never mine and I am part of the community like everyone else.

For the record, yes, this is exactly what I was hoping for. A revival in the story aspect of the game. The thing that sold me when it first came out. Yes, I feel for the raiders and the pvpers (even though I hate pvp) and I hope you guys get taken care of soon, but seriously, stop posting on here like you are the on true voice for everyone in the game.

"we're losing our companions" umm yeah... for a short while, then we get them back.
"one class story fits all" well, that's how it's been since post launch... what else is new?

"Is this what the community wants?"

Well, the community is a vast and varied group... but overall, most of them want more story... and we're getting more story... most want a focus on story... we're getting more focus on story...
so, yes... this is what the community want (well, the majority)

IIRC NGE was a complete change of how the game worked, skills, professions and all that.

This doesn't change that.
It makes combat "faster" by adding some new skills for lvl 60-65, but that's about it, that we know.

I have a very hard time believing you know anything about the game you list in your sig if you actually believe this is anything like the NGE.

The self appointed voice for the community will smite thee!!!

And here I thought i was the only one to think that forum signature was garbage.....

Pretty much this. They launched a sand box game (which is a niche taste) with an "old school" combat paradigm and a completely random, and long, set of hoops to jump through if you wanted to be a Jedi.

A cool idea for the "old school...immersion is all" grinder player BUT not a good idea if you wanted the profits that were expected by SOE and LucasArts. SAs such the game population, from launch, steadily dropped until it stabilized with a population that was well below these expectations. So LucasArts said "fix it" . SOE came up with a plan, LucasArts said "looks good", SOE implemented said plan.

That may have worked if they launched in that state, but was too late to turn things around and with how old the game was it was not going to attract enough new players as those who had left had already "settled in" elsewhere. This pissed off the players who stayed because they fit well into the minority niche that SWG had, thus far, painted itself into. Many of them left.

This series of debacles (bad launch concept and buggy to boot) followed by a too little too late attempt to fix it meant low profits thus no IP license renewal.... hence SWG shut down.

Now I liked SWG, really I did. However I am not arrogant enough to think what I like is in the majority.

Like anything player tastes and expectations change. The SWG at launch was not going to be a successful MMO (by the defintion that the Companies, not players, use) over the long term because the design basically made your average player say "this game is work and not play" and the IP alone can only sustain interest for so long. However even if we are in the minority we often think in the following sequence....

First, even if we are in the minority assume we are not.
Second, even if we recognize we are in the minority we forget that these companies make games to make money, they are not simply labors of love for the enjoyment of players.
Third, because of the above, when companies make changes in an attempt to fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities we get all angry and cry "you betrayed us." They did not, they just did what they saw as their job, give the investors a good ROI.

I will use SWTOR as an example. I like the story A LOT. However I also like end game A LOT. If all they do is level up the current HM FPs and OPs to 65, and the story either ends a fair time before actual NEW stuff is released, or the story does not come out fast enough to keep my interest, I will leave. I will not rage that they destroyed the game, I will not rage they betrayed me. I will simply move on and take my wallet elsewhere. Why? Because ultimate EA/BW has a job to do... that job is to make money. In the end they do not care about me as an individual, nor should they. Their job is to make the most money in the most efficient way possible and if I am not the type of player who contributes to that goal then I am irrelevant. I accept this.

If they make more money because of these changes then they succeeded without me. Good for them, I am just one gamer with my own opinion on what is good.

If they lose money over the long term, then perhaps they will learn from that lesson. Then, if I have not found something better to do maybe I will come back when then make changes based on the lesson learned.

Only time will tell though.

^ what he said ^

all three set up of the game--Van, CU, NGE--had its good and bad points. the issue, for the most part, wasnt (imho) the changes themselves, but the arrogant nature at which they presented them. i believe the CU we were given only a couple of weeks. I remember valiantly defending SOE on some group element that they changed that had everyone angry...they then relented and turned it ba....group exp...thats what it was, group exp...they turned it back to how it was previously then BAM...we are changing the game.

regardless, i was enjoying myself even if many didnt. in fact, for the NGE i set up my sub to a yearly payment. everyone has tastes that differ and the majority like theme parks. no sweat here. in fact, outside of the CM (quiet) i really like this game/

Mentioning the spooky ghost of NGE implies major changes, horrible or otherwise, to the actual game. New expansion is just some new 10-20 hour story. I doubt nothing good or bad happens to the actual MMO. You watch 10 hours of talking heads and go back to fleet, the end.
