Actually SWG would still be running today if it had not been for SWTOR. It was the announcement of SWTOR that put the real end to SWG. Players were expecting SWTOR to be SWG 2, and not planning on continued subbing to SOE, because of that. SOE knew they couldn't compete (plus lic issues), so they shuttered the game in preparation for the SWTOR.

While the NGE was absolutely horrible, and ended a lot of rich complexity, the game actually got a lot stuff added to it over time (after NGE), and was quite a fun game by the end. Had the game been allowed to continue and the final very creative dev team been given a slightly better budget, then they would likely be doing great today.

OK, I read that three times and it makes no sense.

But My Master Droid Engineer / Master Merchant disagrees with your statement.

It was almost exclusively the licensing issues.

Then there's nothing further to discuss if you're incapable of following your own discussion. I'm certainly not going to draw you a diagram.

OK, so you can't clarify your statement, got it.

Well it wasn't so much of issues with SWTOR as it was the fact that it was getting to the point that the game was barely making enough revenue to pay for the IP license.

Also NGE was necessary, if the NGE had not happened the game would have shut down years sooner than it did. Yes the NGE ticked off a lot of the hardcore SWG addicts, but outside of the hardcores the game was hemorrhaging.

SWG's NGE was SOE trying to apply a tourniquet to a fatally wounded game.

Also, remember for every good surprise you think you are saving by supporting the devs not saying much, you may be saving an equally horrific surprise from coming to light. Bioware isn't infallible, just look to the ending of Mass Effect 3.

Also, hypothitically if they reveal something and there is a huge amount of hate they have time to work on changing it, even if that were to mean a delay to release. Much easier to do when in development mode than once it's pushed to live.
You're basically asking them to show us their cards. It's not going to happen. It's part of their overall marketing strategy. I understand your point, but still not going to happen.

There are teams upon teams of 6+ figure professionals who make their living making these kinds of decisions. I agree they don't always get it right, but, they certainly aren't going to change years of planning and development because a few players on a forum don't like something. Sorry!

SWG was solely hemorrhaging subs from the LACK OF CONTENT and UNFIXED BUGS, and to a lesser degree class imbalances (but not that big of an issue for players). SOE at the time didn't not, and refused to understand that you still have to add content, regardless if the game is open world, or theme park. The lsot subs cause people were getting bored.

You can expect a good bit to be released by the July Cantina event in Cali, though.
Agreed. So far, Bioware is hitting every step, every note, right on the head.

I'm actually very shocked at Eric being proactive in the forums with addressing the big questions while obviously being unable to give much information. Its how the big boys of MMOs do it, and quite frankly, its something BioWare NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EEEEEEEEEVER got right, and that's going back to pre-Eric, back to launch.

I hope this can be kept going. I feel like KotFE is the rare opportunity most MMOs don't get - an opportunity to start over. And it warms my heart to see them not only take that to heart with the game play and the expansion, but thus far in the forums and community as well. Amazing how so little can go such a long way.

The thought of people earning "six figures" making decisions should scare the hell out of everyone. Those are the people don't play the games and enact things based on marketing and psychology dogma, not fun. The landscape is littered with the bodies of horrible games, movies, and TV shows designed by MBAs because that's what marketing tells them will sell.
