Proposed System Updated!

I'd personally love to see an update that looks like this...

Greetings fellow Rotworms and Frogdogs!

Welcome to the New Tiered Arena Ratings and Token Rewards System! There have been some exciting changes to the way we approach Ranked PvP! Let me Introduce the new Proposed Tiered Rating System, complete with new Incentives and new Rewards!

General Changes Information
  • •All arenas still reward Commendations to purchase gear and still offer credits, However Grouped Ranked offers double the Comms, and double the credits!
  • New Tokens (Solo and Grouped) shall be granted with a win and by successfully completing the daily. The new
  • Three Win Consecutives grant additional tokens and additional rating!
  • A win grants 10 generic rating and a token. (Solo or Grouped)
  • Rating loss is a predetermined value based on your present tier (Recruits/Bronze/Silver/Gold).
  • Daily Three win quest grants 3 bonus tokens and 10GR.
  • Three Win Consecutives grant 3 bonus tokens and 30GR. Perpetual (Resets upon Completion).
  • Weekly Mission(9 wins) grants 9 bonus tokens and 90 GR.
  • •A new Ranked Arena Vendor has been placed on the fleet and offers a variety of gear and items available. There are separate tiers of gear for Solo Ranked tokens and for Group Ranked tokens.

Rating Changes

Now here is the really exciting part. Unlike the old ELO system, we now have completely separate Ranked tiers that change in the way that a player gains and loses rating. These new tiers are also exclusive to the rank below and the next one above. In other words each player can only be faced against other players that share their Tier. Quick description looks like this:

Everyone begins their Gladiatorial Career as an insignificant grunt who's been beating up mobs and a training dummy. The ratings all start from zero and the tiered process comes into play as you continue queing up to fight. Quick breakdown of the new tiers and baseline function, is as follows:

  • Recruit tier
  • 0-10 wins = -0 rating per loss (desired rating to achieve next level is 100).
  • Bronze tier
  • 100-250GR = -10 rating per loss (desired rating to achieve next level is 250).
  • Silver tier
  • 250-500GR = -15 rating per loss (desired rating to achieve next level is 500).
  • Gold tier
  • 500+ GR = -20 rating per loss

RECRUITS 0-10 Wins.
What we have enabled here, is a general starting stage for all new combatants to test their mettle. Newer players to the game are highly encouraged to que up and enjoy the excitement of the Arena! As a result, they are not punished for a loss, but may enter the Bronze tier after they have successful achieved 10 wins. (Or 100 Generic Rating) Now all players(and trolls alike) are stuck to remain as Arena Grunts, until they can prove that they are ready for the next level of competition.

BRONZE TIER (100-250) GR
Ok, so you made it out of basic training and are eager to continue your career. A loss now costs you -10 negative rating, so you will have to work hard to keep the Consecutive Wins quests resetting, and advance yourself up to the Silver Tier.

SILVER TIER(250-500 GR)
Now Here's where things get very interesting. A loss now costs you -15 negative rating, so bring your best to the Arena stage to advance to the next tier. You're almost there!

GOLD TIER (500+ GR)
Gold Tier is where this game's true Elite reign supreme. Once a player has earned +500 rating, they are grouped up only against other Gold Tiered players. A loss will cost you -20 negative rating, so don't be the team to get booted back down to the minor leagues... These games are thee main event!

REWARDS
  • Recruits receive commendations and credits... that's it
  • Bronze tier receives (insert)
  • Silver tier receives (insert)
  • Gold tier receives (insert)
  • Top 96 players with highest ratings receive (insert)

It's a good idea. Honestly there are just so many better ways to handle rewards than their current set up.
Darth Sychotic: (Sith Juggernaut) "Whatever does not kill you has failed and must be made to pay egregiously for its error."
Kaz Keeno: (Scoundrel) "One day I hope we can just move on and put this whole 'trying-to-kill-me' nonsense behind us."

Hell no. If losses don't decrease your rating, it's not a rating...it's just a product of how many times you're able to queue times your win rate.

New Daily Arena Bonus achievements that grant extra tokens and additional rating!

•Three wins = 3 tokens and 5% generic rating (daily).

•Three Consecutive wins = 5 tokens and 10% generic rating.(daily)

•Six Consecutive wins = 10 tokens and 15% generic rating.(daily)

So here you'd have players in Soloque, or Teams in Grouped Ranked that will be rewarded extra for winning. Simple math Bro. If you que up and win your eventual 3 matches after queing up for like 10 games, you won't receive the consecutive bonus, and hence will have a lower rating than the guy who logged on and won 3 in a row.

I'll add that even though a player gets his/her "3 wins for the day" completed, he can still keep queing to try and complete the "Consecutives".
I missed nothing. You've obviously never played a competitive game before. Losing MUST have a penalty.

Losing does carry a penalty: you don't earn any tokens and your daily quests reset. It just doesn't punch you in the teeth and laugh.

why? and esp in yolo, why? Since you are being saddled with what is supposed to be 3 random strangers, a ranking based on said 3 random strangers is pointless and meaningless. Especially with class balance the way it is...nonexistent. Thus winning should have it's reward and losing should either count for nothing or have it's own small reward.

Personally, I'm in favor of just a pure participation, 7pts for a win, 1pt for a loss. Keeps people playing, forces participation dependent on the end of season reward structure.

I would suggest something that has been mentioned in other posts, As long as there is no balance, then there needs to be separate class tier levels. As it is right now, basically mercs and marauders have little to no hope of getting any. And maybe it's as simple as the top 20 in each class, or top 12.

I like the token system, as it encourages people to keep playing. And lets face it, if you go into ranked without or nearly a full set of 174's you're hurting yourself and your ranking as well as your team. Thus the ranked comms you get at the end of the match is essentially pointless.

edit: as a side note, and a point of proof. The top 96 people get rewards, of the 3 bottom classes, meaning mercs/mando's, mars/sents, and slinger/sinpers, a total of 3 are in the top 96, 1 merc and 2 commandos. with over 60 of the top 96 dominated by pt/vg's and sin/shadows.

Until they address cross faction, cross server, Huge class imbalances, Skank tanking and proper queue randomization (so you can't queue sync,) the ELO system is never going to work as intended.

The developers should never have implemented it without first creating the necessary framework. It's the story of swtor. The game is forever being ruined by a lack of foresight.
