As a player since beta, I've seen this game start with such great momentum and now sad to say it died out. Such ambition. Fully voiced over cutscenes, ambient score, hundreds of hours of gameplay, lush graphics, and all this in the Star Wars universe. A seemingly dream come through...then disappointment struck. First with static environments, cardboard box cities, lifeless npcs, and more grind then I wanted to partake in. Secondly cartel market turned this game into a joke. It Reminded me of when SWG resorted to selling cards lol. Finally, the last draw came with the insult of an expansion and the new discipline system. I'm going off to play Star Citizen because there is no immersion here.

I'm only on the 7-day subscription, so I can't really say I'm unsubscribing. I have, however, been subbed off-and-on since release.

Logging in for the first time in months, I was immediately struck by how constricted the game still feels. Character customization, planets, questing areas, even flashpoints feel limited, tedious, and stagnant. It's shocking that an MMO lacked any sort of long-term vision. It's almost impossible for the game to grow horizontally. How do you introduce new classes and crew skills? How can you expand on class stories? How do you mitigate the linear pathing that infests the game at every level?

It's also shocking at how little there still is to do. You can quest, you can run flashpoints/operations, and you can pvp in warzones or in GSF. That's it. That's . . . the whole list. If you don't enjoy one aspect of the game, that strictly limits your potential in-game activities. Hardly anyone plays the on-rails Starfox knockoff (for good reason). Crew skills are more a series of timers than actual gameplay. The game seems to actively discourage exploration with its high walls, exhaustion zones, and huge aggro spheres from enemy mobs. And datacrons are so few and far between that you can't really consider that a worthwhile investment. Besides, how many people really enjoy jumping puzzles that require precise movement from imprecise controls? How many people enjoy waiting half-an-hour for a moving platform?

I also hate how they keep dredging up Revan's corpse and shoehorning it into another chapter of the story. Revan should have been nothing but a legend in this game. Maybe a statue, maybe include the Revanites, but that's it.

Finally, there were members who actively made me not want to play the game. They were consistently wrong, and their constant condescending, bullheaded, passive-aggressive, "Bioware does no wrong" presence made it a chore to log in and read the forums. I'm glad to see they have gone, and find it laughably ironic that, in their parting message, they now say the game has flaws and was botched at launch.

I love Star Wars. I love Knights of the Old Republic. I loved Bioware. I've been seeking an MMO worthy of investing my time and money. This is still not that game. And it pains me to no end that this will likely be the last Star Wars MMO.

That's all the message was, nothing else. just quoted him and said "Please stop Trolling"
So I get an infraction
So I contest the infarction (for obvious reasons)
2 days later I get following "response" "You called him a troll, that makes you a troll, the infraction stands"
I have no comment about the early history of the forum moderation. I won't deny your claim about how bad it may have been in the beginning because it may have very well been the case. I wouldn't know. My experience is based from May 2013 to March 2015 to which I've been for the most part a active participant.

In particular, I was thinking of a certain very vocal and dissatisfied group of PVPers at a time in late 2013. They spouted alot of crap some of legitimate, others not so much and impractical. Bioware left those threads up for along time. As far as I know, those users didn't get any infractions, despite it severely bad mouthing the company because it didn't reach the point of crossing the line to personal attacks for someone who disagreed with their assessment.

Then they became so upset, they eventually cracked, name and shamed people, try to pin personal information, talking about moderation, personal attacks, etc, which is when Bioware started cracking the whip that led to infractions and eventually bans.

Just wanted to throw it in there too for perspective. I remember Reno, a self proclaimed white knight to this day, getting temp banned from the forums for essentially posting a silly thread that ever so slightly mocked at the time "meet my demands or else" threads that were frequent at the time. A mostly silly thread that led to an infraction on his part.

Like I said, I'm sure they do have their favorites, but in most cases, infractions will result when someone is getting way too much into that discussion and starts to take disagreements far to personally and leads to personal attacks.

Well for my unsubscribe thread is that the new Hariloom system wow has far exceeds the collection system in SWTOR. Few things such has the harilooms gear in wow will level with you from 1-100 now with upgraded made from in game currency. Also the harilooms themselves only cost in game currency and now they are available account wide for FREE. No micro transaction to unlock them. Anyone who has played wow in the past knows how the harilooms gear has stats plus experience boosts on the gear themselves...

Compare this to SWTOR it's no contest who will be getting my $15 a month, but I will probably still play SW but strictly as a preferred player thanks EA I supported most of your Devs kids through Collage. I trully hope you reconsider the collection system for what it really is. Just a cosmetic closet of armor that costs way too much! Take care!

I will be unsubscribing because I guess EA doesn't want my money. Normally I pay with game time cards, but this time around, decided I wanted in the the $39.99 dollar promotion. After finding out EA/BW doesn't take Green Dot cards, I decided to set up a paypal account to purchase the promotion bundle. Turns out, BW's system is so bugged out, you can't really use paypal either, unless you spend a few hours on the phone with customer service. Seeing as how I wish to actually enjoy the rest of my Sunday evening, I'm going to go ahead and let my free 7 days lapse. Maybe by the end of the week I'll be willing to put this all behind me and attempt to hand EA/BW my money again, maybe not.

to each their own. collections system is to allow you to have the look on variety of characters (in WoW this is accomplished via transmog and lets be honest, of all the appearance systems across variety of MMO's, WoW's version is some of the weakest. you don't even have dyes). heirlooms are not quite the same thing. better comparison would be to compare mounts.. .where in WoW - all your mounts become account wide the moment a single character learns them, while in SWTOR only cartel mounts have that option and you have to unlock them all individually. in that - WoW is certainly supperior

in adition, heirloom's purpose is to speed up leveling. in SWTOR, that's accomplished via legacy tab - character perks and xp boosts.

personally, I prefer TOR system, because getting upgrades is not really a problem, given that everything is basic coms now (and crafted mods can fill in what commendations do not) but I get to have the look I want as soon as I want it. while you can transmog heirlooms, a lot of the good looking armors are higher level - aka inaccessible to low level alts and you cannot transmog on high level, then send it to alt, as the act of mailing removes said transmog and you are back to square one (yes, I have tested it).

like I said, to each their own, but of all the issues I've been having with TOR lately - gear system of mods carrying stats with appearance being determined by shells is not one of them. compared to that, even while being accountwide (which certainly removes some of the leveling annoyance) heirloom system is still very limited. and you have nothing for glove, boot, belt, wrist slots (I would also say ring, since while there exists one in game, its kinda very difficult to get) AND unless you bought your herilooms prior to recent patch which would make them lvl 90... heirlooms start off at lvl 60 and upgrading them to go all the way to lvl 100 can cost a very pretty penny of in game credits.

/shrug.

That has to do with budget and finances more then anything else.
I personally don't think the current mods don't care
I just think they are overwhelmed by what responsibilities they have because of budget cut backs to the game.

The game reportedly made 165 million dollars in profit last fiscal year
Game originally was projected to be making that (and more) monthly
Everyone should have known the first thing to get cut would be all forms of customer support staff (in every area including moderation)

I've seen PVPers (and raider) get overly aggressive in other games because they figure they are the most important demographic out there. So what you describe really doesn't shock or surprise me. Its been going on since around 1997 when UO launched (before UO the complaints about games never really pitted play styles against each other).

Truth is in this game PVP is a far 3rd place finish in importance.
I've always maintained, if your in SW:TOR for the PVP, you already lost the battle
SW:TOR PVP is not appreciated or considered good in the MMORPG genre
so has been pushed to the far far far back burner in terms of importance

So I could see PVPers getting mad, getting personal, getting out of control on forums
thats when good level headed moderators need to step in
if they even exist in the business structure now
In regards to lessening F2P and Preferred restrictions
In GAMING, as in LIFE,
You get what you pay for
No game restriction is so dire that $15.00/month will not eliminate it
