hi. i've been running swtor for 2 years on this pc : AMD phenom x4 965, 3,4 ghz, gigabyte 970a, asus radeon 6670 1gb, corsair vengeance ddr3 8gb, 1600 mhz , ssd kingston 120gb, psu 500 w, windows 7 home premium 64 bit
but with the lateast patches i've begun to have problems playing 8m ops, and 16 m had became impossible.
so i've purchased a msi gaming radeon 9 270x, 2gb, and it's a great improvement, but still on 16 m hm ravangers or temple i have like 7-8 fps sometimes.
pls give me an advice about what else should i change/upgrade in order to have playable fps in 16m hm ops, and that would be still good enough the next 1-2 years with new patches and ops and stuff.

The reason why on 16 man the performance drops is because the CPU need to now to calculate twice as much to whatever it was calculating for 8. Believe it or not a massive GPU is not needed for the game, just a better CPU. I am not saying upgrading the GPU was a bad idea (it was a good idea), but you will gain more if upgrade your CPU!
I am not familiar with the AMD family, but something that has a similar performance of i5-4690K would be good. Make sure whatever you decide to buy next is compatible with your motherboard and have enough power.

The GPU does make a difference, your original GPU was really subpar for gaming...

The new one is better, but it still is pretty low end these days... I wouldn't suggest anything less than a AMD R9 285 for a starter card for gaming in 2015.

As for CPU, AMD hasn't been in this race for awhile, for SWTOR an Intel Core i3 would be faster than that thing, the i5 a bit faster still.

The current non-k version of the Core i5 is what I suggest for new upgrades today, it runs $185 on Amazon right now and will last you a good long while. The i7 is a waste for gaming, don't bother.

i agree, but i want to mention that i don't play anything else but swtor. so i'm interesed that my system will work well in this game only. i talked to guildies before purchasing the 270x, and they said that this should be more than enough.
one issue might be that my motherboard doesn't support PCI-E 3.0 (like the graphics card), but does that make the difference between 15 and 30 fps in 16 m HM?
and if i'll buy let's say i5-4690k, should i set the pc such that both graphic card and cpu graphics work toghether?

Sure, happy to help...

If you really only want to play SWTOR, then a 270X might be enough, depending on your resolution. Are you running 1080p, or something higher? That card is probably enough for 1080p, but I wouldn't go higher than that myself.

The PCI-E 3.0 vs. 2.0 is a non-issue, this has been looked at by several web sites, it just doesn't make that much of a difference playing games.

The built in graphics in the Intel chips... frankly are terrible for playing games like SWTOR... they are great for office machines and playing Plants vs. Zombies... Don't even waste your time with them...

Your single biggest issue is your CPU, SWTOR is more CPU limited than GPU limited...
