There is no UI improvement needed in this case. Unless of course you'd like the UI to pause the game and call the players phone to confirm he/she/it has at least limited cognitive skills before being allowed to use the GTN.

Unless you are one of the programmers working at BW/EA, you don't know "how little effort" it takes or "how trivial" your suggestion is. In addition, as others have already pointed out, all you want is actually in there. Learn to use the GTN, take a few seconds of extra time to make sure everything is sorted correctly, that a maximum price is entered (and at the correct amount), and check again befor clicking "yes" on that pop-up box.

There is no need to do anything more on this. There are safeguards? You think you need a 4th? Next one thinks that a 10th one is needed, and then someone says that being asked 100 times wether he really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really wants to buy that stuff for that amount is not enough, and asks for yet another safeguard.

Oh yes, what do they think at BW/EA to make you perform that enormous exhausting task of leaning forward that 3 times a week you use the GTN. Poor boy, that much workout is obviously too much for any human being to endure...

No, it's not a scam. Scam would mean you a) either don't get what was advertized (which isn't the case), b) get something of minor quality (which isn't the case), c) get an empty box (which isn't the case), d) get some hidden fine print (which isn't the case), e)... etc. etc. etc.

On GTN, you always get exactly what what was advertized, no hooks, no fine print, no trick, no scam, nothing... the only thing that might betray you is your inability to concentrate, read, think it over, and then come to a decision.

If you are on The Progenitor, search on the GTN for "Vanadium Flux". In case he has his offers up, you will immediately see what I mean. There are not many offers and you will notice several offers for

10 x Vanadium Flux with a price per item of

1.999,90

In between his various 10 x offers, he has the following offers though:

1 x Vanadium Flux with a price per item of

199.990

To me, it is obvious that this guy does this on purpose. Same item. Same seller. Very subtle (but huge) differences in the amounts. On the bright side, that guy must be really bad at scamming, because who would buy a Vanadium Flux for 1.999,90 credits if you can get it for 800 credits from the vendor? That would lead to the stupidity-question then...

My question is nonetheless: Is this practice a scam or not?
Invalid. The price shown would be 199.99
In the GTN UI, decimals only go to the hundredths (two places after the decimal).
So even if the price of something were 3.14159 credits per unit (yes, that's part of pi), the UI would round up to the next .01 credit. So it would show as 3.14 credits per unit.

Sorry.

To the main topic's OP: Use the Price Filter already in place. Do you have to reset it every now and then? Yes, but at least then you know where your upper credit limit is. And you don't even see those prices above what you want to pay.

*digs around* Ah, here it is. BW's official stance.

Also, OP, we have a handy search function. With this handy tool, you can find out if someone may have made a mention of these "GTN scams".

I do wonder how sombody can be scammed - there is an option that allows you to sort the prices cheapest to.the most expensive so I am puzzled how sombody can be scammed unless there is only one of a certain item on the Gtn...

So for example I set a threshold at 100K, and wish to buy the Mask of Revan for 8 million credits. The prompt comes up, "This purchase exceeds your spending threshold, do you wish to proceed?". I type yes in the provided text box and the purchase goes through. If on the other hand, the midlithe crystal I am trying to purchase for 6K actually turns out to be 6 million (as happened to me today) I have a chance to realize my mistake.

I can't tell you how frustrating this is. And yes trolls, I know it's my own fault for not being careful enough, but it is none the less extremely frustrating and far too easy to do unless one is careful never to let their guard down. I would counter that the GTN should not have to be that stressful. I am sure you have lost players/subscribers to this problem, having briefly considered moving on to another game myself after experiencing the frustration of watching a month worth of savings destroyed in a minute to a scammer.

My problem aside, the solution I am suggesting would be very helpful, would require little effort to implement, and help Bioware maintain subscribers. I hope you will give it careful consideration.

Yeah, I earned my STUPID badge yesterday.

Was in need of some mats and checked the GTN. Got in a hurry, didn't look close enough at the PER UNIT price (COMMA, not a decimal point). Out 6+ million.

Expensive lesson learned. Because I will be more cautious from now on.

^^ it's so obvious

Scumbag sellers obviously do use this to increase the chances that someone makes a mistake. And a mistake is what it is, not "stupidity". Everyone makes mistakes. If you think you are immune, think again.

It's pretty sad if people really are confusing 1,666,667 with 1,666.67 (or whatever). "3 numeral to the right of a 'thing'" vs. "2 numerals to the right of a 'thing." Hmm, hmm, so confusing.

There is no "GTN scam" so there is no need for a "solution."
