Burned out from MMOs... But I don't know why.

I'm almost champion rank for Rishi and Yavin IV in TOR. I have a level 30-something Rogue in Rift. I've almost leveled my second frame to level 40 in Firefall... But I'm just bored. I've been doing the same things over and over again. Traveling from point A to point B, killing enemies, turning in quests...

I haven't played PvP or GSF or even messed around with my stronghold. I haven't set foot in a raid in months. This is mostly because my craptop can't handle anything more than solo content... and even that is stretching it. I've really just been burnt out of video games as of late, and I don't know why. For some reason, I've been playing Destiny's PvP, even though I'm not a huge fan of the game(Haven't bought the DLC because it just isn't worth it). Maybe it's because TAB-targeting isn't fun or engaging. Maybe it's because I don't really enjoy playing until I hear a "ding!" and an increase in a number anymore.

My laptop doesn't have the storage space for anything more(SoR really ate up my memory), so new games are out of the question until I get more storage space.

Anyone have any tips for dealing with burnout?

take a break.

do something else. pick up a new hobby, catch up on shows and/or movies, read a book, whatever appeals you other then video games. don't try to force it.

burnout happens. there's a reason saying: "too much of a good thing" exists

you may regain your interest in video games. you may not. but life is too short to spend your leisure time on something that is no longer fun.

Yeah... I'm going to try to work on the first draft of my main project(A possibly 600+ page Cold War Thriller), several other ideas I have for novels(I tend to bounce around from idea to idea).

My main problem is that some MMLs have daily rewards and I feel like I have to log in and get them. Then it feels like I have to play the game. Thanks for the advice, though. Happy new year.

happy new year to you as well, and I know that feel. that is the feel that can be hard to fight but its also the very thing that causes burnout in a first place. the moment you game becomes a daily chore. accepting that its ok to miss a day here and there, its ok not to log in, it really is - goes a long way towards games feeling like fun and well games again, instead of responsibility.

Destiny's PvP is really fun, but after Bungie dropped the "Hey, you gotta re-level all of your Exotics again" bombshell, I've hardly played. I had 22 Exotic weapons / armor pieces and most were maxed or close to it. I was already getting burnt and I sure as hell ain't gonna do that all over again 3 months into the games launch.

It's always wise to take a break from anything. I've been in MMOs since 2004 or 05, and after awhile you might get bored with a game and decide to take a break. Or real life might hit you and you need to focus your attention on it more. One can also only go so far with playing games: unless one has the time or money, or even both, at one time or the other we need to turn our attention on other matters.

"Daily" should mean "do at most once per day". If you are reading it as "always do every day", you are doing it wrong.

The best thing about Dailies is that if you *don't* do them today, they'll still be there tomorrow.

Except for Event Dailies, which seem to mean "do every day on every eligible character so that you can get enough Rep to get to Legend before the Event comes back for a second time."

Yeah. Bungie made some really stupid design choices. I've been grinding Dead Orbit reputation to get the weapons and gear, but I found out I would need a "Crucible" commendation for each weapon. Whoever came up with a system of "you need to grind reputation over and over until you get an item that has a chance of having the commendation " deserves to get a Halo: CE Magnum fired at their foot.

once you let a game become your second job that's when burnout is likely to begin setting in... that's why i, myself, play multiple games on multiple formats... and, when the odd times hit that i don't want to be holding a Controller or KB/Mouse, that's when i marathon a few episodes of whatever show catches my interest on NetFlix... always remember it's a recreation & you are not obligated to do those dailies every day... the name may as well be a misnomer but it's really more about the timer and not the act itself... do not let your recreation become a 2nd job and all should be good... whatever you choose to do in your downtime just make sure it's something enjoyable... and don't forget to have fun...
if all the great fashion designers have gone over to the Darkside, then i will too...

I started playing this game from beta but I have taken 2 breaks of a few months. It's only normal that when you do something a lot you need to take a break. Sometimes taking a break means you don't come back at all. In SWTOR's case I did come back both times.

But it's still a game and it should be fun. If it isn't, do something else for a while and you'll see after a while if you want to get back into it or not.
