SWTOR Unleashed (game files in RAM to improve performance)

I've been experiencing some horrible FPS drops even while standing still sometimes to 15-20 from around 45-60. This didn't happen a while ago. Anyway..

After trying lots of things on my Nvidia settings I was at the end of my tether and thinking surely my gpu isn't that bad after only 2 years or so of swtor?

I came across this thread about SWTOR unleashed. Full of hope again, I downloaded and installed the ramdrive thing and downloaded SWTOR unleashed.

I have a problem though... I tried searching through the thread but I'm not sure if I'm impatient or something is wrong.

I have 16gb ram. So I decided in the settings after selecting the game directory to allow:
  • DiskCacheArena
  • LocalApp
  • FX
  • Dynamic

I would have tried selecting a couple of others manually given some leeway in ram but wanted to see how it would work with just the basics.

When I run in unleashed mode, I noticed it would take only a couple of minutes to finish copying things to the ramddrive - and then from task manager I noticed it quit and it had run the bioware launcher.exe.

However, at that point - nothing more seems to be copied to the ramdrive (I guess that is unleashed's work done) and the launcher.exe is sitting there at about 40% cpu utilisation but not doing anything - more crucially, not showing me any display/dialog for logging in. I waited for 20 minutes but still nothing.

I manually killed it. Went into unleashed and removed it. Then I tried deleting the unleashed xml file and redoing the settings. Still the same thing - bioware launcher runs but shows no display/dialog.

Finally, I tried running it in Retail mode - and still the same thing - bioware launcher runs but shows no dialog/display and is hogging some cpu utilisation.

Any suggestions to help me sort this? I feel like I'm missing something and seeing lots of folk commenting on the improvements makes me hopeful but of course this issue is disappointing.

Ignore my previous message!!!!

I had changed something in trying to sort things and this very thing was preventing the launcher from showing. It's working now... I'll see how performance goes with the ramdrive thing.

Well this is a very noobie user unfriendly program but i really want to get it working correctly. The guide is all foreign language to me. It seems that unleashed is making its own folder to load assets to, is this intentional? If i make my own virtual drive it says it already exists. It keeps telling me to free up more ram also. Ive seen so many windows saying this and that......now im totally confused and aggrevated.

I guess i need to be baby walked through this. I have 8 gigs of ram but it seems that dont leave much room to load assets....and im sure thats because i dont have the ramdisk done correctly.

I know my post is short and vague but im pretty fed up at the moment.

Read the OP entirely. If you don't understand it, SWTOR Unleashed is probably not for you.

Regards

Do you need to launch swtor unleashed every time you launch the game? or just the first time when you make changes?

Heh, I did mean to come back to this. Well, over the last few days I've experimented with putting different things into ram. I have 16gb so enough to put a few things there but for me personally with my system - the problems I was hoping to alleviate aren't really alleviated.

If my core problems were able to be sorted then I'm certain that I'd be able to see reproducible results using Unleashed.

My core problem is gpu usage dropping randomly directly causing the slow downs. Others I know don't have this issue as they are playing quite fine with consistent frame rates but not I (woe is me etc).

Yeah, you launch it and then launch the game via it.

The only thing I didn't put in after the first couple of tries was the LocalApp data - that contains all your configs and player ui settings and on one occasion, it trashed mine (but I had a backup). No problems with anything else I have found though.

I'm having a problem with all weapons in the game becoming green circles that read; "missing granny". I followed this fix:

"With SWTOR Unleashed, in settings, deselect all assets, save, remove and quit, settings again, select your assets, play in unleashed mode. This bug happens because some game file names changed. But the hard coded ones didn't, so no need to update SWTOR Unleashed."

This fixed the problem for me but when the update came, so did the problem and this fix doesn't work for me anymore.

When I select my assets I select dynamic and weapon.
Basically this;
swtor_main_art_dynamic_cape_1
swtor_main_art_dynamic_chest_1
swtor_main_art_dynamic_chest_tight_1
swtor_main_art_dynamic_hand_1
swtor_main_art_dynamic_head_1
swtor_main_art_dynamic_lower_1
swtor_main_art_dynamic_mags_1
swtor_main_art_weapon_1.tor

Any idea how to fix this?

This is a very temperamental program lol. Im not knocking it because it seems to improve alot of peoples frame rate drops. After many aggravating evenings trying to make it improve mine, ive discovered this program is just not for me.

I think ive figured out how to use it and i cant put many assets into it but overall it just doesnt help me. Another issue im sure i have is i have a bottleneck on my video card so that will impact results im sure.

Im buying a new system so hopefully ill be able to experiment with this later on.
