They're doing so out of their volition. No one is forcing them.
You're right, I am sure people who take something to market they "thought" was valuable and find the price has been slashed are thrilled, peeing their pants happy

Not sad at all...

"Sadness" over virtual items who can't be sold at over inflated prices for virtual currency...

The very definition of "sadness" no doubt.

No it's not sad.
Here's the real life equivalent.
If you desperately need money to cover one of your basic needs (food, shelter, clothing) and the only way to get them is by selling whatever valuable things you have, then yes that's really sad.

But if you desperately need money to buy the new iPhone and you're selling off your valuables to get it the day of its release instead of waiting and finding another way to raise the amount you need, then the only sad thing about it is that people are willing to do anything to get that new shiny toy.

Worst crash is yet to come on Tuesday. Many people still don't know how big of a money sink the entire expansion is going to be, both Guild Ships and Personal Stronholds, decorations, crafted Prefabs, Dark Projects etc. Word is spreading, but when everyone actually gets hit by it on Tuesday it's gonna be sales rush

Lol! Crash? Yeah right.

Prices will fluctuate, they do all the time btw. You have to know when to buy and when to sell. It sounds like some of you haven't been paying attention what happens when new packs come out. This isn't a new scenario.

And for those of you worried or feeling sorry about those who won't make millions? If those sellers are smart, they will wait patiently until the Strongholds and Capital Ship fervor calms down. Prices will go back to "normal". There is nothing sad about it. Unless you are one of the "I want it naaaaooooo" generation.

Its not a crash... the perceived value of some items will drop dramatically... this is to be sure... however, the value of other items is already rising (significantly)... namely the mats for crafting decorations/unlocks.

Its a shift... after the initial sink of the guildships and such, things will be return to normal (maybe at a slightly reduced price) as people return to leveling, and so on. After the initial outlay (in terms of pure credits), the credit requirements are not tremendously high (unless you plan on buying all the mats you need).

Why do we see dramatic swings right now? Here is my two cents... people are rushing back to the market trying to earn credits... flooding the market, and undercutting each other. People see that they need credits (personally or for the guild), people are looking up "how to make creds in SWTOR", there are hundreds of guides out there, that basically point to the same 5-10 ways. So, there are a lot of new sellers... selling the stuff that everyone else is, while undercutting the lowest price. In short, this is a buyers market...

As with any business (and in a way, all those playing the GTN work as a business), you have to adjust to market demands... change, upgrade your wares, explore new markets.

Two things are happening here. Yes people are selling off things to raise cash ahead of the homes patch. But that is not the main reason for things like the crystal to drop. Whenever you see huge drops like that in MMO's it is always the same reason. A better version is coming soon.

The recent Games con cantina tour information confirmed a Rise like expansion by the end of the year. The Rise of the Hut expansion raised character levels from 50 to 55. That means it is highly likely we are looking at another level increase and that all current top end mods, armour, implants, crystals, augments and the like will not the best you can get by Christmas.

So for those smart sellers, it is a GTN sales race to clear stocks you are seeing. You don't drop an item that regularly sells close to 10 million for 750k if you think it is going to go back up. You sell hoping you will get 750k before it is worth 100k. My advice if you have any of these max level things is to sell now.

Oh and anyone selling off the best armour sets cheap are fools. A level increase normally means a new armour set for a character. So demand rockets (or it did last time).

With regards to the crystals, you are all taking a big assumption that they will be upgraded when the level cap rises to 60.

Remember they are essentially L50 items (albeit the CM ones are L10) as of now with a 55 level cap.

If they do bring out new ones, that will make some CM items obsolete overnight, an unlikely scenario I imagine.

It may well be that crystals are one of the things which remains as they are now, they are pretty much only cosmetic items as it is.

Good, market is resetting itself. This, I believe, is an intended reaction from BioWare because prices on the GTN have been bloated for a long time.

I got a blood red hawkeye for 50k. I thought that was pretty nice. Not sure if the guy really knew how valuable it was but I wasn't saying nothing.
