The only way "casual" players wouldn't have a lot of credits in the game is if "casual" means "I don't want any credits".
With the Guild ship coming out I've been paying attention to these threads the last day or two (kind of late to the game I suppose as far as that goes). Since 2.9 isn't live yet, I would say that none of this applies to any debate presented. This may or may not be true, that making money will be 'easy' starting at 2.9 if you're prepared in advance...but it hasn't happened yet.

Personally, as far as making money and play style goes, I'm not a 'casual' player based on hours played. I am, however, what I consider a 'casual' player based on what I like to do when I'm logged in.

I like to run PVE dailies. I don't like groups. I like crafting, but I find it difficult to sell the items I craft for the amount of credits I want to sell them at.

Over the last year or so I have made at least 60 million credits.

MOST of it from selling the Orange PVP armor shells that have the (Rated) designation. Since there's no (Rated) system anymore, anyone can wear them at lvl 50 and since not many people bought the schematics when they were available they're at least mildly rare. I sold the armor pieces for 110k each and made a boatload of credits.

I'm in a 5 person/account guild that only exists because some RL friends played for a few months and are now mostly playing World of Tanks. I'm going to drop the 50 million for the guild ship myself simply because I want one. I'm hoping they come back and check it out for at least a little bit.

I don't have any problem, either in principle or practicality, of the 50 million price tag for the ship. It's a SHIP, it should be expensive.

And if guilds with 10+ more people/accounts can't work together to get 50 million credits, then, in my opinion, that's not much of a guild.

For myself, I've been lazy and simply haven't put the effort in. Even so, I'm sitting on 5 million+ credits, not counting mats gathering virtual dust in my cargo bays, after playing the game since Feb 2012. Not to mention over 7000 CC from my sub bonus.

There is a direct correlation between effort expended and credits earned and retained, and there are a number of different ways to expend that effort. "Just playing the class and planetary storylines" takes the longest, is dependent on not spending credits on gear as you level (use mission rewards and Planetary Comms), and yields the smallest results (a couple of million by the end of Corellia per alt). And yet, even that small amount of self-discipline in gameplay seems to be beyond so many people...

Well of course, but it can't be too "fun", because "fun" is is leveling alts and since they're only "casuals" they don't have time to both play conquests and level. So conquests should be really easy and really short. We wouldn't want "casuals" to feel left out on the "fun".

So, you're stating that people with low-level alts should not be playing conquest missions with their 55s? How dare you assume that people with alts would not enjoy that content!

See what I did there?

(btw: does anyone know what level you actually have to be to play those missions?)

So hardcore casuals could never raise any significant amount of creds. If they actually started to make creds, they would pull back and stop or slow down play because they aren't being casual enough.

Yes. There are objectives which span most levels. For example, PVP missions, group finder flashpoints, killing mobs on lower level planets, etc...

So I think Darth was saying: level 40 character + Guild Conquests on a level 40 planet = Fun

Clearly they're not hardcore enough.

Not necessarily. I am what most would call hardcore casual. I never stray into the realm of hardcore game play. I only PvE. I have never entered a WZ or intentionally hoisted my PvP flag. I've never run OPs. I can count on one hand the number of times I've run any FP that isn't named "Black Talon" or "Esseles." I've never tried GSF or even Space Combat. I've never stepped foot anyplace with "Kuat" in its name. I have one 55 main and seven 50+ alts (plus lower alts). I've completed all eight story missions. I unlocked all Companions (with maxed affection). All eight of my 50+ characters have maxed-DS/LS. I have maxed out every crew skill ... some, multiple times. I spend several hours each week playing.

I am very hardcore about playing casually. And I have no aversion to nor difficulty in collecting credits. If we ultimately decide it's worth it for pay 50 million to buy a stage for our Guild RP sessions, my Guild will get its ship without anyone feeling the lost credits.

Honestly, for me, the difference between "hardcore" and "casual" rests with how a player uses his/her time in the game rather than how much time they have to spend.

I play 3-4 nights a week, 1-2 hours actively per night. Some nights I run one set of dailies, or do a single op, or possibly a couple of flashpoints. Occasionally, while doing other things, I also log into my crafters and/or GTN toon and send comps on missions.

Am I casual?
In my mind...casual can be many things - time played, seriousness of play, activities done...any number of things. Just by being on this forum, you exclude yourself from being "casual". You take the game seriously enough to post, often at that.

I have never said that to you. No need to lie.
