Make your way to the tunnels. Buy a relic from the vendor. It gives immunity on use, and has a 5 second CD.
The most expensive one costs 20k and require lvl 45, but there's also one for lvl 25 and 35.
Plus it gives better stats than other relics in the game, for the level, so there's that too.

Requires Newcomer status with T.H.O.R.N. (Oh the horror! the outrage! Get over it)

What I really don't get about the event is the people like this guy I saw last night on Alderaan who ran up to me to explode and infect me while I was purchasing something from a comm vendor.

I honestly wasn't expecting to have to vaccinate an alt because of that.

Not really a big deal on my end, but it really makes me question the people that do this. Like...this is content for them? Fly around clicking on people to find who didn't vaccinate and then go blow up on them? What is the point of that? Make me waste 2k credits?

Believe it or not but infecting (I think 3 if I remember correctly) other people is actually a mission you get rewards for.

And there's an achievement for it.

  1. Run the event dailies 4 times to get to a newcomer rank (5 green + 1 blue token for each round)
  2. Buy endless vaccine in form of the relic (which has some nice stats for a lower levels)
  3. ???
  4. Profit

You didn't expect to buy a vaccine for an event that can affect the entire server? It doesn't matter if it was an alt or not, its a server wide event. You can easily "opt out" by buying a cheap, 2000 credit vaccine. Buy it and move on if you don't want to play.

MMOs usually involve some bit of social experimentation. The developers gave you an "out." Use it.

Apparently you missed the part where I said it wasn't a big deal to do EXACTLY that.

I didn't get the motivation for people to fly around to random planets looking for people to infect. Now that I know BioWare wants people to do this for an achievement as part of the "content" it makes sense.

Still *********** stupid, but makes sense at least. People that actually enjoy this must be bored as all hell.

I didn't miss it. I explained you should have had a vaccine anyway. Its affects the whole server. All my alts have vaccines. Simple. Done.
Are you new to the internet? People will infect you because...they feel like it. Whether its to get a laugh or an achievement. Who cares why.

It's cute that you keep trying to make this sound like it's my fault for not expecting people to come up blow me up on random planets when the advice I keep seeing in threads is "oh just avoid the fleet if you want to skip the event"

1. It's so insanely cheap to stay vaccinated. Unless you're a player literally starting THIS WEEK, 2k credits per six hours (and any potential deaths) is no trouble at all. By the time you reach the station you can afford the vaccine. And I'm sure on most servers a brand new player could find a guild or friendly players to gift them vaccines.

2. I personally LOVE the idea of events that can have global effects on the game world. Having the status quo/static state of the game world have a wrench, even a tiny one, thrown in it from time to time is always a great way to keep things fresh.

3. If you're avoiding the plague like, well, the plague, you don't even NEED to spend 2k credits every six hours. Buy one or two vaccines and only ever use them in the event you get infected while off the fleet.

It's really not a major deal. Avoiding exploding and dying in a green puddle on the floor isn't a huge effort for someone who doesn't plan to actively participate in the game.
