There's a term for people like that. Starts with an "L" and ends with an "oser." There are many more important things to be proud about than that. Of course, small wonder that's why the gaming community as a whole gets very little respect.

Why do insecure losers feel the need to type bull**** when they see posts like that?

Perhaps it because the ones who trumpet the loudest about serving are generally the ones who never got near an active combat zone or even held a rifle after finishing basic.

Most jobs in the services are just regular jobs like any other, no more dangerous or any less monotonous than any 9-5 desk jockey, yet because they did it wearing a camoflaged romper suit some of them think it comes with a side of undying respect because they 'served'

The soldiers I've known who actually saw 'active service' (IE going into the field and getting shot at) dont like to talk about, especially with non-soldiers, because we simply would not understand.

I'd even posit that the guy brining up his service in the context of an 'I quit' post on an MMO forum looks just as insecure as the guy calling him out for it.

Twitchy tails aren't related to my point. My point was to make fun of people who see a post mentioning military service, and making dumb noise like they're trying to take them down a peg for some reason.

Honestly I think people are making a huge deal out of an aside. He gave basically a throwaway reason for not giving up his stuff upon quitting (and really, if you REALLY WERE quitting for good you'd have no problem giving up your crap). He didn't appear to be chest-thumping about his service in the context of the rest of his post.

I'm only posting my suggestion as to why people might have reacted the way they did, usually I just roll my eyes and move on.

Yea I mean I get annoyed by it too when it appears to be a disservice to what volunteering actually means (like trying to use it to make whatever point you have more meaningful in a video game forum) but I don't really think that's what the original guy was doing. Just set someone off I guess :P

I just cancelled my sub five minutes ago, so I felt like getting some things off my chest before walking away.

My top five reasons for leaving would be: Lack of further class story, lack of further companion interactions and scarcity of LGBT interactions. That's three. I guess I could throw in two minor gripes, but the fact is those three are 98% of why I don't feel like paying anymore. I'm sure I'll drop in F2P from time to time to run a lowbie alt for a couple of levels, but over the past six months, I've only logged on less than once a month, and that's not worth paying for. The game simply does not hold my interest anymore. I don't want to run Makeb on fifteen separate alts after they've completed Chapter 3. Twice is more than enough. There just isn't any more content for my characters. There's only content coming out for a single character. Not characterS, plural. I don't want to be doing the same kind of things on my Imperial Agent that I do on my Jedi Consular.

That's the crux of it. The game encouraged multiple alts all the way to level 50, but after that, you're just supposed to endure the mind-numbing boredom of running the same quests on all 10-20-50 of your alts. No thanks. I'm mostly done now.
In order to have romance in this game, I am forced to either crossdress or change my sexual orientation. Nice. Thanks "Bioware".

I know how you feel. I dread the day when I finish all 8 class stories, because they are we keep me hooked. Once I finish them all, I'm afraid I'm going to end up doing the same thing you did; unsubbing.

The only thing that would stop my from unsubbing once I finish all 8 class stories would be for them to either:
A) Continue class stories
or
B) Find some way to incorporate the classes into the new planetary storylines so it is different for each class, and not the exact same thing

As a general rule, people who want to really unsubscribe simply unsubscribe. They don't come here and post about it. Change this thread title to "Attention-seeker's thread: tell us why you are threatening to unsubscribe (even though you most likely will not, at least not any time soon)."
