This time, IMO you didn't. Naturally you don't need my approval or permission to post what you want, but never the less it is a demonstration of a lack of self respect to get baited into breaking the forum rules.

You choose to remain within the forum rules because you have self respect. You do not stoop to the same level. That is the reason. I get baited all the time. I respond in kind....but I endeavor to avoid breaking the forum rules in the process. I do not allow myself to get baited.
Well there is a point where I decide am I going to react or am I going to leave it. Sometimes you get baited but then we all feel strongly about certain things.

You bring up forum rules and add an assumption. You assume that people don't break the rules because of self-respect. I think that's inherently an incorrect statement. Self-respect includes breaking the rules when they go against your principles for example. If you were to follow the rules against your own principles...well that would actually be a lack of self-respect.

And besides that it's simply not true. It's like business compliance. That's also all about following rules. In my company we recently had a specialist over to explain us some stuff about compliance and why people do or do not follow rules. He basically said that roughly 10% of people will always do what's considered the right thing to do and about the same will do the opposite. The remaining 80% (and he did say the numbers were not exact but a rough ball park figure) does the right thing because there are negative consequences. So I hate to break it to you but my experience in life agrees with this guy. Most people don't act out of self-respect but self-preservation. If you get banned you cannot post. That's what makes people follow the rules more than anything else.

Then IMO you do not understand what self respect is Tsillah.

Self respect is when you avoid engaging in behavior that will hurt no one but yourself. If you engage in behavior that hurts you but has no effect otherwise you lack self respect.

You don't do things that hurt you if you have self respect. Breaking forum rules in response to a post, no matter the reason, no matter how much the person is baiting you, is being unfair or even deserves it is a sign of a lack of self respect...because it is you that will be hurt by doing so.

The correct response, one that demonstrates self respect is to report the post and respond in kind if you wish, but remain within forum rules to avoid being punished.

I respond in kind. My post history is littered with evidence of this. However, I endeavor to remain within the rules. I have had two rules notifications with zero points over my time here, and have had 6 posts removed or culled. And I have been here for quite a while....check my user number.

I deserved and received all of that...remember, I said I have been guilty of this as well. Once I realized my error, I changed my ways and encourage others to do the same.

Demonstrating self respect, IMO, is one of the most important if not THE MOST IMPORTANT things to do in a forum such as this.

I actually have a set of rules I like to use when posting.

1) Demonstrate self respect.
2) You do not need to qualify anything that is not presented as fact.
3) You only speak for yourself.
4) Folks will likely dislike what you have to say from time to time. Come to terms with that.
5) Do not respond with emotion. Do respond with the understanding that they have a right to speak their opinion, just as you do.
6) Folks can be rude, unfair and unkind. Demonstrate tolerance.
7) Your ideas and suggestions do not require community approval. You should not seek it.
8) Always remember that there are two sides to everything.
9) You will make mistakes. Accept them gracefully.
10) Your opinion is not important. Accept this reality.

Snip...
You waltzing in here and condescendingly belittling and telling people that they have no self-respect also breaks the forum rules. What you should have done was heed the advice that you are now attempting to pass and report the offending posts and move on.

From the Forum Guidelines:

Quote:
  • Never insult another member of the community.
  • Respect other community members, whether they agree with you or not.
  • Flag, don't fight. Use the "flag" feature to report posts to our Community Team if you see someone breaking the rules – don't respond to them!
  • Make constructive, on-topic posts that add to the discussion.

Please, refrain from the "Holier than thou". It is unbecoming.

This one I have a hard time following because I was taught that respect is earned not given and very few members of these forums have earned My Respect.

Then you weren't taught very well. In public settings, it's proper to be polite and respectful towards others. You should respect others and treat them as you would like to be treated yourself.

Unless those people are 49er fans. Those people should be shunned and relegated to forever live within the borders of the city of San Francisco.... Or Santa Clara. Maybe both.

SHUNNNN THEM!
