Took a break from SWTOR to play WoW. My thoughts...

it should be noted for those who found WoW's travel to be slow....In the new expansion, they're grounding all Flying mounts and are considering if to allow Flying to return. At the very least, it'll be gone until their first major content patch and may well not return at all for the entirety of this expansion of theirs.

They promise faster flight paths, though and say you can use your Flying mounts on the ground, so it's all good.

So, they're going from bad to terrible.

  3. As for the UI, WoW has mods, we have most of the stuff movable and re-sizable (there could be more, like resizing of windows, true)
However, true, WoW had 10 years of user input to improve. There are some things that you cannot just copy/paste
  4. Travel, with upgraded Quick Travel and Fleet Pass to lower cooldowns, I don't find it that problematic. And we can port to every daily zone quickly.
3D movement, yes flying is a big whoop, that even developers admitted (not sure where i read that, sorry) they dislike, because players cheese the system with it by skipping areas.
Swimming is nice, and I hope we will see it at some point here as well (Manaan you be awesome for that).
  5. Pet classes are an interesting thing. Basically, every class in SWTOR can be viewed as a pet class in solo experience, as you always have your companion with you, which takes on functions of pets in WoW.
Players don't have to use a companion. Just dismiss your companion and play to 55. More challenging for sure but definitely an option.

The closest thong I have seen to quests is ESO but they are not interactive. I have tried going back and playing wow and trying final fantasy 14 a realm reborn it was hard to read all the quests.

Just like you can play Hunter without a pet in WoW. More challenging, but possible (or at least it was when I still played, prior Cata).

I played WOW from launch all the way up to Cataclysm only stopping because I felt the addition of Kung Fu pandas was going to far. However, Even before quitting WOW I was getting bored as my days went from leveling and raiding for gear to helping lowbie guild members make their level quotas for the month (yes I was a member of a raiding guild with lvl requirements to stay in it) or helping them get better gear. The fun of the game was gone for me and I'm willing to bet even if I went back now the fun would still be gone and I'd have a learning curve for all the changes made in my time gone.

SW:TOR however I have never felt that the game isn't fun even when I came back to the game after having to leave for a year it was like coming home from a long trip. I was comfortable in TOR and got back into the swing of things fast this is why I love TOR.

Most definitely. Once you had a taste of voice over - especially in MMOs - it's hard to come back to the classic quest system.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago when I got my hands on Dragon Age: Origins. The game was great but after playing Mass Effect my character being completely dumb was hard to witness.

And it happened again with Wildstar, I could no longer stand quests given through a box after tasting TOR's interactive dialogues. I will have a hard time moving to any MMO that doesn't offer voice over.
Randomizing your forums.

Yes, WoW clearly has a ton of end-game content and lots of stuff to do, but a lot of it is extremely tedious and overwhelming. I found myself saying, "Ok, I am exalted now with August Celestials. Time to start the massive grind with Golden Lotus." Wow just feels a lot grindier than SWTOR. Yes, there is a lot to do, but the quality of those things was not high.

Something else jumped out at me - travel sucks in WoW. Yes, we can fly in the open world, but it is very slow and takes forever to get from point A to point B. I feel that SWTOR is a lot friendlier to the casual player in this regard.

Wow's equivalent of the cartel market contains a few items that are both expensive and visually not as impressive as I thought they'd be after I bought them. Heart of the Aspects, for example, has an annoying animation that makes it much less appealing. But, $25-35 for one mount is ridiculous. And, the account services are also significantly more expensive than they are in SWTOR.

Then, there's transmog versus modding in SWTOR. No comparison here: SWTOR wins, hands-down. The ability to color match and color coordinate and change mods, makes it much more user friendly.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me is during mid-summer's fire festival, the fact that I ran Ahune every day and did not get the frostscythe, thus, forcing me to wait a whole year to have a chance at getting it for transmog, bothers me tremendously. I feel punished for running it every day and waiting in 30 minute queues. That is not fun - I'm sorry.
Thanks for your views . I too am a long time WoW player before I came here.
While comparing two games of different sub-genres, i.e. Fantasy to Sci-Fi, is like comparing Apples to Oranges. One is a Pay2Play and another F2P model, They are still MMOs so I'd like to provide my feedback on the points in bold:

- Oddly I find the levelling in this game to be worst. As one has to do all the side quests, especially as pref, to get enough to get to the next planet. Class quests are absolutely delightful and so immersive. If one could simply level through class quests alone that would be wonderful!

- Agree with massive grind on reps. It's not account wide as it's here. If it was perhaps it would seem better.

- I personally find travel more obnoxious in this game than I do in WoW. Perhaps because it's Quick travel>Load screen>Spaceport>Ship enter Loadscreen>Post Planet travel exiting ship Loadscreen>Quick travel>Loadcreen to get to some one. Massive cooldowns on Fleet doesn't help even after the reduction through legacy perks. EDIT: I stand corrected on this, 0 CD after perks.

- I wouldn't call their cosmetic only store an equivalent of the Cartel Market in any form. The market here which contains some required unlocks one has to pay for as an F2P/Pref player to enjoy the game properly.

-SWTOR does indeed win hands down thanks to the modding system.

-Sounds the same with events and luck factor here.

I have yet to see any game even get close what SW:TOR's done in that field. Not even close. If you have only one reason left to play the game it is the story.

to each their own naturally, but I wanted to correct one statement. after all the legacy unlocks - fleet pass has 0 cooldown. nothing massive about it

Aha! Thanks for correction, that does make it better.
Strange I thought it was a final 3h CD after the reductions.
